The food is awesome! I love the cauliflower, the lights on the ceiling and the friendly service. I can't wait to go back with my parents again and again!

Terrific food and a friendly owner. You can't help but be a regular here.

Gangadin is the epitome of mediocrity. Tepid, at times, even uncaring service, uninspired food that is not terribly spicy. I have been several times, each hoping things might improve, alas it never does.

Best Indian in Los Angeles. The proprietors are great people, the whole family works the restaurant. Low Corkage fee, KCRW Fringe Benefits and INCREDIBLE FOOD! My only knock is service, but I don't mind because the food is constantly impressing

The food's good, especially the lamb dishes, but not so fantastic (the meat samosa is dry and should be avoided) that I can overlook the service, which has been below par both times. Once, they mixed up the spicy dish with the mild, then, instead of apologizing, blamed me for not realizing that my dish wasn't spicy enough and my father's was too mild. Another time, the wait crawled on forever, in an otherwise all but empty restaurant, as our waitress dealt with phone orders and take-outs. Our food arrived before our lassis.

Gangadin is the first Indian restaurant I've tried in the Valley. Driving down Ventura, there are so many to choose from, I've just never gone to any of them. A friend introduced me to Gangadin and I think I will become a regular now :) Delicious food, great service and smiles!

Not as good as people have said in other reviews. Wait staff was nice ( when you could get their attention). We ordered shrimp tandoori, shrimp saag, okra, naan, and rice. Saag and okra had ok flavor and lots of salt. Shrimp tandoori had almost no flavor. Quite expensive too - $65 with tip for the two of us without alcohol. Ambiance was nice, but nothing special. BEWARE that you have to pay for on-street parking until 8pm. We got a ticket at 7:51. Parking enforcement guy was a real jerk, rushing to issue the ticket before I could put money in the meter. The waiters were nice enough to give us a heads up that the parking enforcement guy was coming, which was nice of them (too bad it was a bit too late!). I'll stick to nearby La Mirch or India's Tandoori in Burbank, which has excellent shrimp tandoori.

great neighborhood restaurant. good portions and you'll get your money's worth if you're an indian food fan. i like the family run business and all the locals in the restaurant each time i've eaten there. my favorite is the saag paneer. it's all so good.

Like some others have said, I definitely expected more given this restaurant has a 4.5 star rating. The price doesn't seem that bad at first glance but once you see the portions, it starts to seem like an Indian tapas restaurant or something. They serve by far the smallest portions I have seen of any Indian restaurant in the area. There were only about 4 or 5 small pieces of lamb in my lamb curry dish. With that said, the food tastes pretty good. Not great, but good. It would have tasted better if it came out of the kitchen at a warmer temperature. The food wasn't hot at all (temperature, not spiceness.) In fact, after about 6 or 7 minutes, all my food was pretty cold. All the food also lacked the bold flavors I'm used to in an Indian restaurant. Everything seemed very toned down and didn't give me that smack in the mouth I was looking for. The service was very friendly and I appreciate that a lot. I think with a few simple fixes, this could be a great restaurant. -Larger portions for the entrees -Serve the meals while they're really hot -make the flavors more intense I might be back to give it another shot. we'll see!

Really bland food. I eat Indian when I want something with flavor and this place has failed me for the last time. I will never order again. I got the samosas and they were filled with JUST potatoes. I like to see a pea in there one in a while. The Chana Saag tasted like nothing.

So I was looking for an Indian restaurant to take out this chick. This place had some good reviews, but it also got hammered by some people saying that the service was bad or mean or inconsiderate. I'll just get to the ambiance because how do I know if they messed up my chicken vindaloo or not?! I don't even know what's in it besides chicken. All I know is, it tasted pretty good. As for the staff... I'm just glad they were there to entertain us because this girl I was with... boy was she a bore. So if you wanna go to a place with a date that you're not sure about...This is it. If your date doesn't entertain you, the staff will. You just have to enjoy the feisty waitress who's almost has hot as the vindaloo. Hot in spirit that is. And probably hot to some dudes. If it wasn't for the good food and the entertaining staff, I probably would have fallen asleep at the table and then my face would have landed in the vindaloo and then I'd have pink eye or something and wouldn't be able to write such a good review about a tasty Indian restaurant. Thanks Gangadin for making my date bearable!!

The best Indian food I have had in the valley, and I love Indian food so I have tried quite a lot of places. The atmosphere is pretty mellow, nothing fancy but not too casual either. Tall ceilings and white tablecloths. They could stand to have a make-over, but I don't come here for the atmosphere, I come here for the food. And it is totally delicious. The chicken tikka masala is creamy and perfect. I also recommend the veggie korma and some naan bread. The service is always friendly and attentive, although when they are busy you may wait a while for your food. I eat here once a week and have never been disappointed.

One thing that brings me back to restaurants is consistant food and flavors. I love trying new things, but many times I crave a certain dish, a certain way and Gangadin has always delivered that.

  • Steve P.

Great food but way, way too expensive for what the place is. You're paying 5 star prices for good but basic Indian food. At first things font seem pricey but since everything is a-la-cart it adds up. So many other delicious Indian restaurants near here that are just as good for a fraction of the cost.

got the garlic naan, mixed grill, and karahi goshi. everything was delicious and the staff was super friendly. i used a yelp deal and would definitely come back here whenever i get a craving for indian food.

Simply the best Indian food anywhere! Unlike other Indian restaurants, the food at Gangadin is light, spectacularly fresh, non-oily and does not haunt you the night after. The ingredients are fresh, topnotch and the preparation is healthy, flavorful and makes your mouth water. There is simply nothing bad on the menu. I recommend starting with a meat, adding a vegetarian dish and a bread--the nan is second to none! The atmosphere is relaxing, inviting and clean. The owner is usually present and makes everyone feel welcome with stories of India and food recommendations. Go Gangadin!

Run by a bunch of Clowns I think. Who cares about the food when you have to wait close to an hour without even a glass of water being offered let alone the food.Being an Indian I feel sorry to be writing for an Indian restaurant like this. A zero star for me.

This is the only Indian restaurant in the area with a dedicated vegan menu. Back when we were just vegetarian, we tried all the indian restaurants and Gangadin was our favorite, so lucky us! We used to come here or order delivery a half dozen times a year, but I've since been spoiled by having some home cooked indian food and have switched to making my own as Gangadin is somewhat flavorless in comparison. So we now only eat here when I'm feeling really lazy. But they still get 4 stars for being the best option around. Our favorite dishes are the paranthas, aloo gobi, and eggplant. Don't bother with their soups, dal, or overpriced rice dishes. We find it best to order everything with "medium" spice, which will result in some items being too hot and some too mild and a few just right. Going with "hot" is dangerous and there's no point in "mild". They also have a booth at the Sunday farmers market.

So....this restaurant gave me very conflicted feelings. Most people don't know this but Gangadin is a very unfortunate name. Gangadin, also spelled Gunga Din, is the Uncle Tom of India. You should check out the review at Ruthless Reviews. So that is why you don't see many Indians eating there. It's like asking black folks to eat at a restaurant called "Uncle Tom's Blackface Chicken and Chitlins". So that is why, I strenuously avoided eating here. But today, my parents were in town, and they needed to eat. Now. Plus they are too old to care about such things. So in we go. We ordered the Saag Paneer(spinach and cheese) and the Chicken Curry. They each come thali style, with rice, some channa (garbanzo beans), rice and yogurt. The food was good. It wasn't amazing, but it was good. Portions were decent, and it was spiced properly. Prices were OK. It was like $12 each for the thalis. I also had the big Indian beer, Kingfisher, the 650ml bottle. We also ordered two naans which were well done and came hot (cold naan is terrible). Lunch, with tax and tip came out to $36. Not bad. The owner came by. He seems nice but is utterly clueless. Upon asking what part of India I am from, he says has friends from there, and one of them recently died, and "did I know him?". Seriously. I was amazed at how moronic this sounded. I also counted like six people working there. I don't know how he makes money, or has been making money for 29 years, that he claims to be open. If he changed the name and got some brains he might make some money and I might show up gain. Until then, this will be my first and last visit.

Okay first off I love the owner here..My Family was in town and we decided to go here because my step-dad loves Indian food. The owner came to EVERYONES table which i thought was amazing and talked for a min.... so personable... I'm a social butterfly so we talked a lot.. he brought out a picture of his wedding day.. Told us his story on how he came from the middle east.. It was such an amazing experience. The food was also AMAZING! I would def recommend this place 100%!!!

This is the only Indian restaurant where I can feed my foodie friends and my 7 year old son at the same time! The staff really knows the menu, and allows customization for spice preference that truly spans the gamut. I'm a fan of the saag paneer and the tikka masala chicken (these are the ones I can get my son to share with me). As others have said, they are not the cheapest place around, but they are extremely convenient to my apartment, the food is good, and I get lunch from them almost every Sunday at their booth at the Studio City farmer's market. ************************** Update 07/30/2012 ******************************************* This has become my go-to delivery place now. I live practically across the street, and they are nice enough to waive the minimum order fee because of that most of the time. They also encouraged me to order online...which I screwed up!...but then brought the food that I wanted a second time, even though my ordering was the real problem. Thanks again Gangadin!

A friend of mine introduced me to this place, and I am so thankful! I haven't dined in, I have only gotten take out, but the interior is nicely decorated. Parking is a little tricky. I got the Chicken Tika Masala medium spicy plus all white meat chicken, Chicken Korma also medium spicy plus also all white meat, an order of rice, and an order of naan bread with mango chutney. Even with two of us, we never can finish all of it, and we are big foodies! My fave dish is the Korma; it's sweeter and pairs nicely with the chutney!

Not that I'm lazy but I rarely take the time to write reviews good or bad. My husband and I frequent this establishment quite often for many years now. Weather date night or the entire family. Tonight, after our babysitter flaked we decided to order in and chose Gangadin. Best choice ever as we were both speechless as we were enjoying bite after bite of one of if not THE greatest meals we've ever eaten! Tonight we experienced a perfect meal. The two of us transcended into a food coma of euphoria! Thank you and see you tomorrow!

The best Indian food! You're greeted the owner who is very friendly. Street parking free on Sundays. All other days 2 hours metered parking in street. And they also deliver. $10 within 10 miles. Not bad if you don't have time to drive for pick-up. Casual atmosphere. Reasonable prices.

Don't understand all the rave reviews I'm reading here. We had vegetable samosas, chana masala and chicken tikka and everything was bland. The rice was tasteless as was the chana masala. The chicken tikka was tender but also lacked a lot of flavor. The service was good, the wine was bad. Won't be returning.

Don't be fooled by their 4 stars!!!!! I was looking for an Indian restaurant in the area to order delivery from and chose this one based on their 4 stars, ignoring all the bad reviews. Don't waste your money and calories on this place! First off, our total (including tip for the delivery boy) for TWO people came out to just under $50. WHAT?! Fine, if the food is good, it's worth it... But no, the food was some of the WORST Indian food I've ever had. Chicken curry- disgusting and super oily. Naan- awful and did not taste like it was made in a clay oven. Samosas- zero flavor, I mean ZERO! The one good thing was a lamb curry dish we got, but that was just good, nothing spectacular. We basically paid $50 to spilt a typical lamb curry dish. Don't waste yourself on this spot. I have no idea how it's possible for them to have 4 stars. I can only assume that they PAID for a yelp subscription and have worked out some sort of deal.

The first time I went here, it was with a group of friends, and the food we ordered that night was good, along with the service and attention from the charming owner. This last time was quite different! It was just two of us and we expected to have good Indian food based on the first experience. A sneering older woman (probably the owner's wife?) approached our table. Her caustic look and vibe were so blatant that I don't remember what she offered us, or asked or wanted. We ordered the vegetable samosas to begin with from a young male server. They were filled with two teeny bits of potato, a half teaspoon of peas and some doughy [potato flour mix?]. Blah! Next we shared chicken tikka, bharta and vegetable biryani. Not so good, not horrible. Tikka was kind of tasty, but something wasn't just right about it. The bharta was okay, except that it was too salty! The vegetable biryani looked better than it tasted, because the vegetables tasted frozen, or zapped, not sure, but the dish just didn't have that good, fresh quality that is SO easy to produce with such simple ingredients as rice and veggies. I think that was it for the food. Anything else we might have ordered is more forgettable than what I've mentioned. BUT, the one unforgettable note is the aphotic woman with the squinting eyes and curled lip. Kind of spooky. Two stars for food, zero stars for everything else = one star. On a Saturday night, at prime dinner time, Gangadin Restaurant was hardly busy. It just isn't what it was. Maybe it's time for Restaurant Stakeout or Mystery Diners to step in.

We went for dinner to Gangadin on a Friday night. The owner is very friendly and great to talk to. We felt welcome and the ambience of the place is nice. However, the food was a huge disappointment. I wish I didn't have to write this review because the owner was so nice, but.. The reshmi kebab was basically tasteless, even lacked salt. The green chicken chilli was watered down and bland. For the price, I felt the quantity was not sufficient either. The naan was bad as well. I'm an Indian, I know my cuisine, and this was not it.

I love me some Gangadin! I get takeout from here all the time, and even though I certainly live close enough that I could walk to pick up my food myself, I've had the restaurant call me and offer to deliver it anyway. That's customer service. Ordering is super easy (I use Eat24, they also use SideOrder, both are ways to order online), the food is always ready on time, and they have never gotten an order wrong. Affordable, friendly service, and the dining room is elegantly decorated. This is the nicest Indian restaurant I've found yet in Studio City, and definitely has the best food. I'm vegan, so I appreciate the variety of vegan options on their menu (Particularly their vegan BREADS for us former-naan-lovers! I'm all about the Parantha.), all of which are clearly labeled on their menu. The best part? If you love spicy foods, and tell them to make your dish extra-spicy, your mouth will be burning (in the best way possible), guaranteed. I'm a spice fiend, and it's hard for me to find any dishes that satisfy that love of the burn quite the same way Gangadin's Channa Masala does. :)

Charmed by the owner but not by the food :( The good things first. The decor of this place is better than many other Indian restaurant in LA. It is neat and has a charm & appeal to itself. Servers are attentive and friendly. In fact the owner personally walked up to us to ensure that we had the meter running for the street parking outside just to ensure we don't get a ticket. (By the way the street parking is paid till 8pm here unlike 6pm at most places). He also offered us his special pickle and "papad" as accompaniments to the food. Service was also fast. While I have lots of appreciation for their hospitality, but not so much for their food. We ordered 1) Gangadin's Green Chili Paneer/tofu Curry 2) Malai Kofta 3) Naan bread The Green Chilli Paneer was a disappointment. Did'nt find it very palatable to my taste buds. While the gravy had a Cilantro base (as mentioned in the menu), the combination of spices used did not make it finger licking. It was missing on flavour, or may be i ordered the wrong dish :( Malai Kofta was better of the two dish but still could not succeed to leave an impression. Naan was crisp & served hot :) Also, when paying $10.50 for each dish, I found the portions to be relatively small. Would give them 3.5 stars for hospitality but only 3 stars for flavors & food.

There are plenty of excellent Indian restaurants in Los Angeles; you don't have to drive far to find one you love and there are always PLENTY of vegetarian options. If you're a vegetarian and you haven't yet discovered Indian food, you're missing a world-full of flavors for your mouth. That having been said, Gangadin in Studio City left us a little disappointed. First the good - as a vegetarian it's great when the restaurant is thoughtful enough to identify foods that are vegetarian on their menu. When we visited London a few years ago we found it was almost a standard at every restaurant to place an obvious "V" by menu dishes. Gangadin does this as well and I'd suggest any restaurant interested in being friendly to vegetarians consider doing the same. Beyond that most of the dishes we ordered, which we were already familiar with from the many other Indian places we've eaten at lacked the hearty and refined flavors we were hoping for. We started with veggie samosas which had lots of potato and not much else in them. Not as flavorful as samosas we'd had elsewhere. The chili curry with paneer (Indian cheese) was too spicy - ok one might expect that when ordering something with both the words "curry" and "chili" in it, but we did ask for it "mild-medium"...we like flavor and spice...but too much spice - in this case heat - makes it difficult to enjoy the flavor of the dish. On the plus side when we mentioned this to them they did bring us free raita (creamy indian yogurt) to temper the heat. Our other main was Yellow Dal. (A curried lentil dish.) Again we love this dish in other places we've eaten it but found it just not particularly flavorful here. The peshwari naan was good. They refer to this as "The King of Naans" on their menu and it really is an indulgent dish with sweets stuffed inside the Indian flat bread. We did okay with this here. I closed out my meal with a cup of hot Indian Chai. Again I found this to be not very strong and a disappointing end to the meal. We found Gangadin because of a Living Social special which worked to get us in the door, but with so many great Indian restaurants all over the San Fernando Valley and throughout Los Angeles we can't see why we would return here. I am not the biggest fan of Indian cusine but I definitely like a few dishes. Specifically I am a big Chicken T. Masalla fan, garlic nan, and reina. Have never dined in but heir delivery and pick up is always on point. If you are a studio city local who likes Indian and is looking for a delivery spot, don't pass this up.

Cool place. Great food. They are actually pretty health-conscious. For some reason the delivery food seems kind of expensive... but honestly the food was excellent so there is not much to complain about. It's nice that they deliver to the Hollywood Hills. We appreciate that!

My wife and I went here for my birthday since I was really craving Indian food. I knew the decor was ordinary based on the pictures and reviews...not much ambience, but I really hoped other things will make up for it. Finding parking was not difficult, though it is only street. I can imagine during lunch or weekends it would be more tricky to find parking. We got seated and after a minute or so the server came to our table. In the middle of taking our order, the server goes off to answer the phone and taking phone orders. This went on for a few minutes while us thinking if she still will come back. Finally we put our order in (we had a quite a few dishes since we were in celebratory mood). The appetizers arrive: lamb samosa and onion pakoras. Both were quiet tasty. Next the main dishes arrive in a timely fashion: lamb korma, saag panner, and baartha. Then we see the owner lady bring over a plate of sizzling tikka chicken which though it looked good, but we did not order it. We told her we wanted "chicken tikka masala"...I assume the server wrote it down wrong. No problem, she told us she will bring us the correct dish. So, our original server brings the masala to the table and then goes on telling me that I ordered "chicken tikka" as if to blame me for her mistake. I told her that I know what I ordered...somewhat an awkward moment. As for the dishes, the keema and garlic naans were tasty usual fair. saag paneer was nicely spiced, but the cheese was not the melty nice stuff. The eggplant baartha was very nice too: rich spices along with the lamb korma. But the chicken tikka masala was the most bland. The masala sauce tasted more like tomato soup since it was missing those rich flavors: garam masala, etc. All in all, it was a mixed experience. Decent Indian food (though I have had better for sure), but the service not so much. If you live in the Studio City area and crave some curry, Gangadin may hit the spot, but the dishes are not consistent. If you are willing to make the drive to other parts of LA there are other options.

My husband has had a lot of Indian food in his lifetime. Chicken tikka masala is one of his favorite things, ever. He swears up and down that this is the best Indian food in LA and I'm starting to believe him. It's incredibly yummy AND they deliver now-- even to Sylmar for a fee! And the whole family that runs the place knows us by name. Sweet.

Are the people reviewing this place taking crazy pills? It's that or they don't know their Indian food. This hurts my feelings. No one should be deprived of amazing and genuine Indian food. I know as Americans we feel the need to completely alter to worsen any traditional dish we get our chubby little hands on. But this was the biggest degradation of my beloved Indian fare I have experienced to date. The ONLY reason this is not a one star review is because the decor of the place made you want to dine in. Most Indian food places are the size of a closet and have a broken, depressing vibe to them. So I generally recommend take out for Indian. Those places that concentrate on the authenticity and quality of their food don't have the time nor the inclination to pander to our delicate sensibilities in terms of decor. I love them for that but I digress... One warm Friday evening 2 weeks ago I was famished. Nothing would satiate the all-encompassing void in the recesses of my belly like a well prepared, mouth watering Chicken Korma. I convinced my two friends that stopping to eat at Gangadin rather than ordering from everyone's all time favorite (Robinas) would be the more socially palatable thing to do. Two birds, one stone, right? Great food and the required norm of social interaction for a Friday night...Not so fast! The proverbial rug was yanked out from under me. The first hitch in the evening came when our diet coke order was a glass and a can of diet coke... I don't usually notice these things but one of my friends pointed out that this is a way to overcharge and then ensure the "refill" is a charge as well. I ordered extra spicy Chicken Korma: It was not extra spicy, it was not spicy, there were however sliced jalapeno chunks floating around with, I counted, maybe 3 pieces of chicken?... Korma FAIL. Spicy FAIL. Authenticity FAIL! Jalapenos in an Indian dish!?! Someone in the kitchen had to be joking. One of my friends ordered spicy Chicken Coconut Curry: Their version of this is MUCH different than actual Indian food places version. It's usually an orange, creamy coconut curry that just envelops your taste buds in pure ecstasy. This was green watery looking substance that tasted mediocre and was NOT spicy even to the most timid of tongues. The other friend ordered Chicken Makhani: The watery substance that the little shredded bits of chicken swam in was for the birds. Just not acceptable by any stretch of the palette's imagination. We were all so utterly disappointed by our lackluster meal we couldn't help but leave with grim expressions and downtrodden spirits. Nothing is more endlessly disappointing than being famished for a particular kind of food and being led astray by someone's watered down imitation of something that is so classically perfect there's no need to change it. NEVER coming back here. I urge anyone who is so blatantly misinformed that they find this hollow substitute of actual Indian food anything more than sub-par to really try one of the authentic versions the area has to offer. You have absolutely nothing to lose and quite literally a whole new spectrum of wonderful flavors to gain.

One of the best places I have ever been to! We went there to celebrate my husband's bday. The food was absolutely delicious. We LOVED the place. My husband is very picky about Indian food (he cooks great authentic indian food) and if he loved the food, that is a GREAT review for this restaurant. The paneer was delicious, very fresh and tasty - just like u would get in India. The naan was great and so was the lassi we ordered. But most importantly the place has very friendly and warm staff! what a friendly owner. it was like we were at a friend's place for dinner. the owner came over to chat with us, asking us where we r from.. telling us about himself. We happened to mention we were celebrating my husband's bday. he sent us an excellent desert (yummy!) wot a kind friendly warm place. if u havent been there already- i would STRONGLY recommend going there as soon as u can... i wish we lived in LA to enjoy this sumptuous place!

the first good sign for this place is they have the spicy/salty kind of mango pickle we like. Their veggie samosas had a fluffy outer shell w/ spicy potato. Rogan gosh w/ mutton, medium spicy and we had no problem w/ their spice levels The bread was excellent, too--parathata & butter naan and there was plenty of curry left from the gosh to dip in. the mango lassi (mango flavored yougurt drink) was a first for me and pretty good, not too sweet. BUT the mango ice cream is wonderful will go here again soon

This place is really chill and the service is great. I believe its family owned, and cozy. The food is consistent every time that ive gone, and I have to say, for me, Indian food is either good, or bad at a place, so this place is good. The only thing thats confusing is that sometimes when you say spicy, its not that spicy, and other times, its just mad crazy spicy hot. I wish there was a way to keep it consistent every time, but oh well. Still cool with me. This place is great for a good Indian food fix.

The owner and his family are so nice! They have awesome lunch deals and are great for an evening out. They always take care of my roommates and me when we come. They also have a VEGAN menu! So don't be afraid to bring your vegan friends and worry if they'll only be eating samosas. The taste is pretty good, and I'm glad they can make my dish spicy, unlike Bollywood (I don't know why they even ask how spicy I want it if they don't put any spice in it). I keep Gangadin as a local favorite Indian place if I don't feel like making the trip to Crown of India in Hollywood (I just try to avoid making trips to Hollywood overall). I'm happy to be a customer to this family.

Although this restaurant is about 15 minutes away from me, this is the only Indian restaurant I eat at! The manager and staff are very nice and helpful people and the food is amazing every visit. I recommend their garlic naan!

ChickenRashmi Kebab & garlic naan - go ahead and order two!! Clean, good service, consistent. We drive from the north valley to Studio City on a regular basis to enjoy their wonderful food. Always worth the trip!

My wife and I celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary with dinner at Gangadin the other night and couldn't have been more pleased with our decision to dine there. We've been going there for years but somehow lately it had fallen off our radar, so were glad to see that neither the food nor the service had diminished in the slightest since our last visit. The owner, Manmeet, was our server and he went out of his way to make sure we got exactly what we wanted and even assisted us in our choices, helping us craft the perfect meal. We ordered vegetable samosas, mixed vegetable curry, saag with tofu, spicy daal, brown basmati rice, garlic naan and a couple of large beers (I forget which kind) to wash it all down (we always order too much food so we'll have some to take home with us!). Somehow, I never knew that Gangadin does not use ghee in any of their dishes, which was fantastic news for us since we are trying to be primarily vegan in our daily lives. Anyhow, the food not only does not suffer from the lack of butter, but is actually improved by it. Everything we ordered tasted clean and fresh, and you could really taste all the subtle spices and individual flavors of each dish, all of which were cooked to perfection. After our meal Manmeet came and sat with us at our table and wrote us out an indian blessing for our anniversary and insisted we take the flowers off our table home with us. Talk about service! After a too-long absence from this amazing establishment I am pleased to say that we will once again make this our go-to Indian restaurant in L.A..

I've had Indian food from several different establishments, but this place just gets it. They understand their American domesticated customers might not always have an understanding for the food, so simply tell the owner (wonderful gentlemen) or his older son what you feel like and either one of them will whip up wonderful lamb, chicken with spicy rice dish...delicious! Try one of the various ales from India. The Taj Mahal is a good start. The garlic naan makes a good side for all meals. This family run business has continued to please the locals for decades, if your hesitant of their food...visit the Farmer's Market in Studio City Sunday mornings. Lots of free samplings of all their tasty plates to make it easier for you to decide!

mmmmm! had dinner here the other night and had a really enjoyable meal. i got the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan and the brown basmatic rice. i've had my share of tikka masala at a number of indian restaurants, but this one was tasty because it didn't taste as oily and heavy as the others i've had. this left me filling satisfied and not fat. the garlic naan was huge, and my mom thought it was a little underdone, but i thought it was tasty. they have an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu, so you can definitely invite your veggie friends and have a delicious meal all together. i will definitely return!

First let me say that I love Indian food and probably eat entirely too much of it. I also like it HOT which can be a challenge for a new place that doesn't understand that I really mean HOT when I say HOT! Gangadin is right on with the spice and the flavor - delicious! I have had the saag paneer, chana masala and chicken tikka masala - all of which were stellar. Great naan - and lots of choices if you like fancy bread. This would also make a pretty good date place - I'd love to lower the lights a bit but overall the atmosphere is pretty good. 5 stars for some of the best Indian I've found in LA.

Such a mixed bag of reviews on this one... Overall, I enjoyed this place. Really light crowd on a Thursday night, but the service was very friendly and attentive The samosas were hot and big, quite good. The onion pakoras were just okay. I really liked the chiken tikka masala and the saag aloo, both were well spiced and were "medium" as we requested, not too hot as other reviewers noted. The pleasant surprise of the evening was the rice pudding, really tasty... I hate traditional rice pudding, but my friend insisted on ordering it and I loved it. Can't complain, this will be a regular spot for us.

Went there for the first time last night. Delicious, healthy Indian food, with a lot of veggie options. The spinach with chickpeas was delicious! And the service was amazing -- felt like going to a family friend's place for dinner.

Gangadin has been a frequent haunt of mine for the 7 years I've lived in LA, and after trying many in the vicinity, it is one of the best Indian restaurants in LA. As a native New Yorker and a frequent traveler to London, I have experienced the best Indian cuisine has to offer, and Gangadin is right up there. I've mostly eaten at the restaurant, but I have also have had pick-up orders and deliveries to my office, all extremely satisfying. I've never had a delivery to my home given that it outside the normal delivery range, and honestly find it appalling that someone would post a negative review from a special delivery as far away as Beverly Hills. Get off your high horse and try coming to Gangadin in person. You won't be disappointed.

  • Chloe D.

Absolutely scrumptious Indian food...and hey, I'm a Londoner so I know my curries! Gangadin has a wide variety of veggie and gluten free options as well as fresh and mighty meaty options. It's far healthier than a lot of the curries out there (I.e no layer of red sludge on the top, white meat and fresh ingredients) and they even have a "British Spicy" level for all you hardened curry lovers. Awesome lunch specials, Classic Indian beer list and some decent wines to boot as well.

FANTASTIC FOOD!!! anyone calling this food bland or missing seasoning is just off their rocker crazy .... the flavor and spices come through in every dish I've tried::: lamb saag, chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, chicken tikka (comes sizzling), green chili chicken curry, chicken vindaloo, vegetable samosas, garlic naan, seekh kabobs, shrimp masala, vegetable biryani, basmati rice, raiti, onion pakoras, papadams, mint chutney .... this is fresh cooking, not sitting around in a pot in the back ... they go easy on the oil so it is never puddling on top of the dishes like other places (and like my auntie makes, shhhh don't tell her I said that) .... I love the healthier spin they put on their food! this is the best authentic Indian food you will ever have!!

Truly loved this place!! I had amazing company for dinner .. Great service, great atmosphere!! Masala Chai Tea is my new thing, it was made to perfection!! So glad I found this place while on my Indian food holiday tour... Lamb Samosa w/mango chutney.... Delicious!!

Love the lunch special...choice of main dish, plus side of rice, yogurt, lentils and salad. Such a nice variety! The only downside is you have to order naan separately because the special does not come with any.

Oh....MY....god...I don't know WHERE to begin. I am very disappointed with the high ratings that people gave this place, and have a feeling that there must have been some kind of, "give us a 5 star and we give you 5 months of Cheese Naan FREE." promo or something going on. This place is EXTREMELY overrated on Yelp. When I first moved back to Beverly Hills, I went through severe withdrawls from my Hollywood Indian spot I used to go to a few times a week. I am ADDICTED to Indian food. I can tell you what region (North/South) the recipes are from, the origins of the spices, if its traditional, the influences, all of the above. Unfortunately being up in the Canyon (Mulholland Dr.) My restaurant that had become my staple did not deliver far enough. I came across Gangadin on some of the food delivery sites quite a few times, but was very skeptical as it truly didn't draw me in. Finally 2 hours ago, I gave in and decided to give it a chance. The FIRST mistake I made was authorizing the maximum tip to be charged to my card before I actually had the delivery. When the delivery guy called, I came out to the driveway to receive my order. Not only was he standing there with the phone to his ear, but when I opened the gate, He never ONCE made eye contact with me, NEVER acknowledged me, nor did he greet or bid farewell. He simply pushed the bag of food to me like we had just gone through a bad breakup and he'd come to return the last of my things from his apartment. It was very daytime soap opera-esque. I have never in my 30 years encountered such a rude gesture. I kicked myself all the way back up to the house telling myself I would NEVER tip upfront for service any longer as I was treated like trash. THEN...I get to my kitchen table to prepare for this amazing $40 meal that everyone was going on about, only to find two petrie dish looking plastic bowls containing my Vegan Saag Tofu and My Mixed Veggie Curry. First of all, they were all alone in this world. They didn't include ANY napkins, Any utensils, Not even a receipt for my order or a menu, should I have been stupid enough to order from them again. I pulled the semi warm containers out and when I opened up the veggie curry I was floored. Veggies...YES...Curry? NO... there was virtually NO curry or Sauce. To add insult to injury the veggies were under-cooked. So I guess the silver lining was that at least I knew they werent frozen store bought veggies. Speaking of store bought. I took the lid off of my Saag Tofu and prepared to taste one of my favorite indian dishes...Unbelievable...and I don't mean that in a Wolf Gang puck sort of way...I mean that in a Hells Kitchen, what the eff did I just put in my mouth sort of way. CLEARLY the Spinach (Not Saag) came directly from a can they clutched from a food bank. The water from the can filled the bowl and that taste, (You know the taste ) haunted my tongue for the hour that followed. It not only was clearly from a can and reheated to MUSH but the tofu was completely flavorless, as if it hadn't been cooked with the spinach but just thrown in on the way out the door. And I asked for spicy, and It was more like "Wait..is that ..a spice..OH...no..sorry...false alarm.." I will never EVER eat at another indian place outside of my regular spot I used to go to. I will buy it and freeze it home for later consumption...and Hell would in the same fashion freeze over before I ever ate anything from Gangadin in life...I was treated like trash, the food was overrated, and was not in the least bit appetizing or edible. This was an epic fail on my end...I should have went with my gut...WHich might I add is the true victim in all of this...

I've both dined in and taken out from Gangadin. All of their curry dishes are amazing and they make some of the best chicken tikka masala. Their naan bread is to die for. Highly recommended!

I love this place! I will only eat at a few Indian restaurants in the Valley and this along with La Mirch, Agra Indian and Taste of India in Woodland Hills are the best I have had. I've tried at least ten others but they just isn't the same quality or flavor. The chicken is always perfect and well cooked. Lentils are great and the vegetable somosas are so good They also deliver!!

We ordered the thali a combination of items served on a steel large plate called thali. We ordered chicken thali and it could be served with a variations of any one chicken dish. We opted for tikka masala. It came with a small salad, lentils, rice and raita. Now for $10 it was not a lot of stuff. The tandoori rotis were ordered separately and we split a Kingfisher beer between the two of us. Overall food quality was good but for $10 I would have liked to see some fritters/samosa and pappads on the thali. My 2 cents. Mayura in Culver City serves a buffet with many more things and the taste is excellent there too. Price wise I think is same or maybe a 1$ more. For 2 persons we paid $48 included was an $8 tip.

This is my favorite indian restaurant. I usually get the chicken tikka masala, naan, rice, and some vegetarian dish. The owner is very friendly and is always very nice to my family and I. He even plays with the kids when they get a little rowdy. I will probably go eat there tonight.

I am writing this review as i wait for the food to arrive, we ordered about 45 minutes ago. This is the slowest service i have ever seen. Though one does not go to an indian restaurant for service, you at least expect a glass of water and the food to arrive in decent time. They treated us like we very invisible. We were a group of Indian people, so not sure if racism was at play especially since people who came after us were served first. We left without eating the food. I would give 0 stars if i could.

So good, and the owner and his family run the place and always make everyone feel so welcome that it's become one of my favorite places to visit in the entire city. Great for small groups and family style dining, or you can get your own dish. The naan and veggie samosas are delicious, as is the daal, vegetable curry, and the spinach with paneer cheese. We get a chicken dish with onions and peppers that I can never remember the name of, but it's so good we order it every single time we're there, which is often. Just a lovely place, friendly, casual, and a terrific value.

Being hungry for some nice Tikka Masala, and our preferred choice being closed, we decided to order from here. Have to say, it was the second worst Indian joint that we have tried in all of L.A.. Only positive was the naan was decent sized but still, overpriced.

SO MANY gluten-free options! Reshmi Chicken is one of the most delicious chicken meals I've ever had. Unbelievably tender, and bright tasting (fresh and tangly, not heavy)! Totally delicious. One of our favorites in the NoHood!!

Veggie samosas - Great! Garlic naan - Out of this world, but didn't maintain it's heat on the way home. Chicken Makhani - Ordered medium-hot, had perfect amount of spice and flavor. Probably the best Butter Chicken I've ever had. I'd complain that it's served a la carte, but one order was plenty to share with my boyfriend with an order of Biryani rice. We will most definitely be back!!

My bf and I were really craving Indian one night and we decided to get delivery from Gangadin. We ordered the Okra Veggie dish, the Sag Paneer, and a fish curry. The Sag Paneer was flavorful, but everything else was bland! Not to mention the tiny to-go portions that cost $10.50-$14.00 without any rice! On top of that we paid an extra $6 fee for delivery (even though our bill was nearly $60), and then our food arrived, barely warm. This place is way too pricey for sub-par food. Very disappointed.

I wish I can give negative rating Really crappy food, we ordered paratha and tea for breakfast and Tea was very cold and could not even eat two bites of paratha. And they didn't even care about how we felt we called for check like a minute after paratha came and didn't even care to ask as to what was wrong and why we didn't finish the food

Hello??? Someone turn on the freaking lights! WTH? It was so dark in there I had to ask them to turn the lights up. After searching the menu in dim lighting I place an order for Lamb Somosa's and also a Lamb dish ( unsure of the name) Forgive on the spelling, moving on. Everything I ordered lacked in flavor. I was very disappointed. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon - though I do give places a second chance on the variable it was me- but looking at the reviews; I think not. Someone mention in their review the Garlic Naan was amazing... Really? I could hardly tell mine was garlic.

I have been to Gangadin many times. It is definitely my favorite Indian restaurant around... We were here for a friends annual "birthday curry" - first time celebrating it at Ganagdin, and could not have been happier. The food was terrific. Service was great. We ate ourselves to the brim and still had food left over. The owner, Manmeet, is always a gracious, welcoming host and spends a lot of time chatting and laughing with his customers. Customer service generally lacks in restaurants these days, so his friendliness surely enhances the dining experience and makes you feel "at home". For locals, Gangadin has a booth at the Studio City Sunday Farmers Market on Ventura Place. You can get a combo plate of delicious food, samosas, sauces, etc, to take home. Amazing. I've read all the reviews on Yelp! The good and the bad - don't let the haters from YEARS ago sway you - go to Ganagadin & enjoy a terrific dining experience and equally delicious food. In this day and age of strip malls, chain restaurants (serving gluttonous portions), and robotic service, you can feel good that by visiting Ganagadin you are supporting a local, family owned business, that takes pride in serving and getting to know their community.

Ordered karahi chicken, onion kulcha and garlic naan to go. Naans became too hard to eat after 10 min (drive time back to my home). Chicken was supposed to be medium hot. Instead it was so hot I could hardly eat a couple pieces. The taste was really bad/bland. I don't know how to cook but even I can prepare a better tasting gravy. Onion kulcha was just a naan sprinkled with chopped onions. Seemed like a joke! Portion size was small. A single dish would not serve 2 people. Plus, prices were $1/$2 higher than other nearby restaurants. Will never order from or eat here again. If you are Indian, this restaurant would be a big disappointment. Avoid it.

Best Indian food in LA!! The food here is amazing. I love their shaai paneer, naan and samosas. This is the place to go if you want authentic and delicious Indian food. Service is also impeccable. I will definitely be a regular at this place.

Hands down the cleanest, highest quality, tastiest Indian food in Los Angeles (anywhere). I just love this place and it never disappoints. Try the Mango lassi, chicken tikka masala, and lamb chops with grilled onions. Excellent family owned restaurant.

I have been to several Indian restaurants in la and I prefer gangadin over all of them. This is the only place where I crave the food, everywhere else is just ok. I like the chicken tikki masala, lamb chops, lamb vindaloo. I have seen others complain about the portion sizes and I have to admit they are not the largest, but I think the quality is there. Great family run place. Will add pictures next time I'm there

Just ordered in... Got Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, two side orders of rice and a double order of Garlic Naan. With tip it cost us just over $50. In a word, BLAND. Could also say, tasteless and very disappointing. My husband is a professional cook and even adding salt and pepper ourselves, it wasn't worth the calories to me. Both dishes ended up in the trash. The garlic naan was just naan with raw garlic spread all over it. Will NOT be ordering again. The best I can say is that the chicken was moist and it showed up on time. My husband is currently making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Sad.

Probably one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to - beating Chakra in Irvine in my honest opinion. Plus the prices are awesome! I went here with a couple of friends after Christmas and boy were we in for a treat! The place's ambiance is quite charming as you walk in and are seated. Around us, people were either there with friends, on dates, or there alone just to enjoy the food! Granted, the only drawback is that I couldn't find free parking, only metered, but hey, that's LA for you! I'm not from LA by the way, but I'm sure you could find some parking somewhere. That night we were served Papadams as a starting snack with a great assortment of dipping sauces - tamarind, mint, and this spicy red sauce. Talk about a nice and interesting change from your typical bread or chips and salsa. Mix 'em or eat 'em alone, it's great. For the main course, I had Green Chili Paneer/tofu Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala served with rice. The chicken was tender, moist, and delectable and the sauce was savory - not overwhelming too, you can appreciate the chicken and sauce still! As with the Green Chili Paneer/Tofu Curry, it was great - considering I'm not a vegetarian and only had it since my friend is. Service staff is friendly and great - checking up how our meal was, or if we needed anything. The owner even stopped by our table, chatted up with us, and offered some great suggestions and gave great stories. It's no wonder why those Hollywood Celebrities stop by this place. 'Da bomb.

If it weren't for this place I'm sure my diet would be going a lot better than it is. My boyfriend and I are literally obsessed with their chicken tikka masala. We order it at least once a week. I havent tried anything else from here aside from the tikka masala, and their delicious garlic naan. But that's enough for 5 stars, it's that good! Super, and I mean super fast delivery. And they're always set up at farmers market on Sundays. Got my sister hooked on them that way!

I'm going to be honest, I have never had Indian food before as my diet normally consists of food that is purchased at gas stations or 7-11's. With that being said, I stopped by Gangadin tonight with some friends and was amazed at how wonderful real food truly can be! I had the chicken tikkah massala (spelling?) and it was amazing. The rice that came with it was very good as well. I drank some chai tea which was very nice on a cold night. I'll definitely be coming back to this place. Another bonus is that the atmosphere is calm and the prices are legit.

The best Indian food in the San Fernando Valley. Their Chicken Korma is to die for as is "the king of naan" with dried fruit. Everything I have tried here is excellent. I have recommend this restaurant to several friends who love it as well. Try it!

Boyfriend and I were hungry and had a huge DIY project ahead of us. So we decided to stop at this joint for some fuel to go. We got the Aloo Mater and the Borma Chicken. The Aloo Mater was just ok. It was missing that oopm to take it to the next level. I enjoyed the Borma Chicken. It had a nice clean taste you get when the freshest veggies are used. Parking was a breeze as we came early in the evening but I can imagine it gets tricky once the more people go out to eat. Like the sign on the front door says: pay for parking or you will get a ticket!

Karla K. introduced me to this place and it has become a staple for us to visit. The food has just been across the board fantastic, from the samosa to the soups to the breads and (vegetarian) entrees (my friend swears by the chicken masala). The service is always impeccably attentive and friendly, and the owner (?) often strolls by to chat. One of my favorite food places since I moved to L.A. a few months ago.

YES YES YES YES YES. Did I mention, YES!!! I am a picky food snob and this place is LEGIT. First of all the lunch special is OFF THE HOOK amazing! So much food for such a great price! All made to order. Cute decor. This is NOT a hole in the wall. It is adorable. The staff is attentive. You sense the family-owned and operated vibe. LOVE THAT. They also have a TON of Vegan options to chose from. Healthy Vegan options as well. Can't wait to go back. My new FAV Indian spot.

Did I come on an off night or something? WHY does this place have such stellar reviews? My friend gave me a yelp deal as a gift. My friend and I ordered the Vegetable Samosas to start, Saag Aloo and Channa Masala, some rice and parantha. I know we ordered it mild (my friend has stomach issues and can't handle it hot), but it was just bland. The samosas were probably the worst. I can find frozen ones that taste better. The pastry on it was just not what you'd expect, and the filling had no flavor. I had to douse it in different chutneys to give it some flavor. At least it was hot. Then the Channa Masala was really bad. The chickpeas were just some canned ones that seemed to have some jarred starter sauce. I don't know, but the texture just wasn't right. The saag aloo had some weird flavor. You know how fish food flakes smell? That's how it tasted. My friend and I didn't discuss how bad it was until we left-- with leftovers-- and then argued about who would take home the leftovers (neither of us wanted them). On top of that, there were about 5 people working, standing around, chatting between themselves. It took a few minutes before anyone bothered to seat us, and then our water glasses went unfilled for the entire dinner. Nobody checked up on us. They even forgot to bring out one of our drinks. It took a while for us to flag down someone... not because there was nobody available, but because none of them were doing anything, or being attentive. Even when they brought food to the table, they just dropped it off and walked away quickly. WTF?

  • Jen M.

I dropped by with a major hankering for Indian food (which happens about once a week) hoping for a good buffet, but this is just down the street from my place, so I thought I'd check it out based on the reviews. Parking on Sundays can be challenging as there's a Farmer's Market, but it's nice to walk around after a filling meal. They have a great lunch special for $12 that includes a salad, raita, lentils, rice and main entree (I had chicken tikka masala, because that's pretty much the only thing I get when I go out for Indian food), the naan was a la carte; which is fine because I prefer garlic bans over plain. Samosas were pretty good; I would have liked a little more spice, but that's just me... The entree came pretty quick and the medium spice was perfect- just enough where the flavor comes through (although I did add some of the hot sauce, which btw is awesome). The naan was fluffy and delicious with real, fresh garlic on top!I could eat that every day and be happy! All the food was fresh, piping hot (and not like it was already cooked and just reheated). The lunch special was totally worth it and filling. I'll take it over a buffet because the food quality was fantastic. I wish I had room for dessert because I love me some Indian rice pudding, but I will try some next time! Service was excellent; they were very friendly and attentive! Give them a try! FYI- the yelp check in special is only for the vegetarian lunch special.

My husband and I have been here twice for date night, and we love it! We don't go anywhere else for Indian food because Gangadin is the best! The owner is super friendly, and the food is incredible. He's been in business for 30 years and I see why. The best part is that there are so many delicious gluten-free dishes. Soooo good! :)

Gangadin is my go-to Indian place, and not just because it's right down the street from where I live. A multitude of vegan/vegetarian options, all equally delicious! Love the atmosphere and ambience as well... a family-owned place that always feels very welcoming and friendly.

I had the most ridiculous Vegetable Curry ever. I don't know how they stay in business. Vegetables in a tablespoon of some kind of clear broth with a mild curry flavor. Stale rice with few peas on top. I just laughed because it was so far removed from any curry dish I have ever come across. In order to recreate this dish I would chop large pieces of zucchini, carrots, broccoli, beans and cauliflower, put them in a pot with chopped onions, a bit of salt and a sprinkle of curry powder, add too much water and boil. Then I would get some rice from 3 days ago and heat it up. There, Gangadin Curry. No wonder my gut hurts, it's confused by what I just sent down the chute.

My favorite Indian place in the whole area. The fish tikka is incredible. Quiet, romantic, healthy and delicious. No nasty MSG, no added sugars, no butter, just all fresh healthy food. Manmeet, the owner is the nicest, and very welcoming. We plan to go every week!

I will never forget this place...for the worst reasons! I had been at this restaurant a few times prior to "the incident." Their food is not bad, not the best though, and the gulab jamuns were cold! I came with my friend who was visiting. We came in around 9:30, knowing they were closing around 10. We tend to have big eyes when it comes to food, so we ordered several dishes. The owner came by and told us that it was too much to order, but we let him know that we were hungry. When the food came, we barely had time to enjoy the food, because the owner kept regaling us with stories of his drug-filled England days. I usually enjoy getting to know people, but soon after he basically pushed us out of there! We had to box everything, because we barely go time to eat! I have worked in the restaurant business before. You don't throw out your customer. If you do not want customers staying late, then say "sorry we are closed." The worst part: After rushing out, my friend realized that she forgot her cell phone at the table. She went in and was listening to the owner's wife bad-mouth us, " I think they were eating slow on purpose!" Um, yeah, that's what I do in my life, make other people's lives worse by trying to enjoy my food. Talking behind the customer's back -outrageous. Look the food here is o.k. There is not a lot of options in studio city. I really recommend you driving further and going to Heart of India or Clay Oven, where they have good food, good service, and appreciate a good customer.

Loved the food, Loved the service. I strongly recommend the chana masala...and ask for them to spice it up. Very lovely experience.

I lived around the corner from this place for 7 years and was a frequent user of their delivery service. I moved to Colorado a year ago and have been on the hunt for good Indian food ever since. I was recently back in LA and Gangadin was on my short list of places I *HAD* to visit. I was not disappointed. Gangadin, I miss you!

I hurt a lot about this place from my uncle but I think this place has no flavor to it its way over prices and customer service was creepy. Go to Jaipur Indian restaurant if you wanna eat some good stuff.

I accidentally bought a yelp deal here ($20 for $25 worth) instead of Lal Mirch which is my favorite Indian Restaurant in the whole of Los Angeles. I was very disappointed that I had mistakingly clicked on the wrong yelp deal but decided to make the best of it and give Gangadin a go. I am sad I didn't cut my losses and just spend an extra $20 elsewhere as my experience was not a positive one. The chicken tikka masala (which is usually a very safe bet) was very bland. Now I may be a curry snob as I am from the UK where Indian food is awesome, but even my friend who had only experienced a few Indian places was not impressed. The best part about it was using the Naan to lap up the flavorless sauce and that was only because we were hungry so wanted some substance! They charge you a dollar a poppadum and only bring out 2 per serving ($2) and the samosas were just like big balls of fried potatoes. I do have to commend their chutneys though because they are delicious but it didn't balance out the rest of the meal. Rice doesn't come with the meal by the way, it costs and extra $ so be careful!! The service was OK but it's really dark in there and they all seem kind of pissed off.... Try Lal Mirch or Bombay Cafe before this place!

Nice family-owned/operated restaurant. The owner's son was very nice to point out the importance of parking legally in the area as the parking enforcement machine is well-oiled and efficient. The owner is all about the health benefits of Indian spices. Apparently he limits the use of cheap flavors like salt, sugar and MSG so to the unsophisticated palate like mine, it might seem a tad bland. I found the food to be a bit on the dry side too. It needed to have more sauce. The ambiance is fine; cute perhaps. It's not exactly palacial in there, but it's fine. The people are lovely and the food is good and real. I'll definitely go back.

The positive reviews drew me to order delivery through GrubHub tonight. Worst Indian food ever. No white rice included with my chicken tikka masala which was more of an orange soup that had no flavor at all. Garlic naan again lacked any flavor. Chicken biryani missed the mark as well. For $33 I expected so much more. Wasted my money!

Clean Lovely, well appointed, lovely menu, good cook, and we come back again and again. The Channa Masala was a flavorful sauce and the medium spice was just right. Chicken Vindaloo was perfect. This place is well rated and deserves it! The staff is helpful and frankly, I thought the service was almost too fast! Wow are they efficient. Tie this together with a yelp check in discount and I am surely going back

Uck. I have ordered from here many times and this time my food was disgusting. The chicken tikka masala was watered waaaay down and had no flavor. The eggplant bharta was also bland. I will not order from here again. I have never been so disappointed. Gross!

These guys deliver to just about anywhere in LA County. When moving to new neighborhoods, I tend to give the local indian food places a try but inevitably find myself ordering from Gangadin. Delivery charges be damned!

OMG! It's hard to believe but yes... I had lamb chops for the first time and it was great!!! I also had the garlic naan, which is really garlicy and I'm a HUGEE garlic fan, so that made my taste buds light up as well. It has such a home-like environment; the people treat you so nice. I gotta go back and try more stuff on the menu now

a happy accident, to stumble upon this gem. gangadin is my favorite indian food of all time ... and i mean all time ... except jitlada and samosa house, which are different animals. BUT, they deliver to a secret sacred remote mulholland location at which i've been spending an inordinate amount of time, so i don't have to get dressed. they make everything from scratch, including the saag and the yogurt. what? wow. they make a green chile paneer that tears me up. by which i mean tears like brings me into tears. and "tears me up" like the cliche. the proprietor family is rightfully proud of their growing endeavor, which i think they said has been around for like 23 years or something. they sell products at the studio city farmers market. they promote health and longevity, which mean nothing without flavor (in my hedonistic mind).

  • Karen D.

I wanted to like this place because I met the owners at the Farmers Market, and they offer lots of gluten free options most Indian restaurants don't. I was terribly disappointed. The chicken tiki masala, and rita was tasteless. They were very nice on the phone, and during my delivery which makes it harder to not order from them. Unfortunately I will have to drive to get my favorite Indian food. On a plus side the Rice pudding was decent.

The food is incredible. Extremely authentic. The service us impeccable the waiters are so helpful and attentive this is the best Indian restaurant we gave been to. The prices are very reasonable. All in all I couldn't recommend it mire enthusiastically

We enjoyed the individual lunch plates with salad, lentils, and rice. I ate the sag paneer and my friend has the chicken tikka masala - both were yummy. The décor is bright and everything is very clean. I would take a lunch meeting there as it was also not too crowded or loud like other Indian restaurants that serve buffet style lunches. Note: I found out the hard way that the Yelp deal is only honored for dinner.

I will never, ever eat here again. I see all of these good reviews and wonder if you guys have ever really had good Indian food. I used to come here a few years back. I stopped going because they increased their prices while reducing their portions. I just didn't feel the portions were worth the cost. I then started going to Lal Mirch because of the reviews. I remember thinking every single time I ate at Lal Mirch - I miss Gangadin. But, now I regret ever saying that. Tonight, I ordered what I used to love here - the chicken tikka masala. Now, I've had some bad tikka masala before, but tonight Gangadin took the cake. The sauce was thin - I'm used to it being a little thick. The chicken portions were tiny. But, the worst part about it was the flavor. There was a hint of fish. It was disgusting. I felt like I was eating cat food. Gangadin - what did you do? Recycle your sauces? Was this sauce taken from a fish dish and reused on a chicken dish? WHAT THE HELL? I don't get it. It was the worst plate of Indian food I have ever had!!! I had this for take-out and I am so tempted to drive over to the restaurant and give them a piece of my mind. Where do they get the nerve to serve this to people? WORST FOOD EVER.

My husband and I have been here twice already and love it. My husband has a discerning palette for indian food, and he thinks it is the best he has had in LA so far. I personally never had much opnion on indian food until we came here and am in love! Their garlic naan (which i actually shouldnt be eating anymore because i am gluten free) is delicious, as is my now favorite, their rice biryani. Chicken and veggie versions were both amazing. The service is top notch and very friendly; we are always asked how everything is by the cook. The ambiance is romantic, good for dates. I would highly recommend this place if your are into some authentic northern-style indian food. Yum!

Not only did it take 2 hrs for the delivery but the food was so terrible and spicy hot even though we asked for mild, that we could not eat (and I like spicy). They are very pricey and their portions are small. I will never order from them again.

    (1)
  • Mandy C.

Its not terrible, but it has absolutely no flavor. Would not spend my money on it or eat there again. Normally don't yelp but considering i chose this place because of its 4 star rating i thought i'd post.

  • Gloria W.

We went here because of the Yelp ratings, but as a person who has had Indian food in several different countries and all over the United States, it was disappointing. One, the Naan was very plain. The bread itself didn't have the natural flavor and feeling it does in most other places. The rice was dry. Two, the Saag Paneer was watery, a big no-no, and was quite flavorless. It felt like someone took a box of frozen-chopped spinach and squeezed it on the plate. The cheese cubes were hard and all-in-all felt like they defrosted a pre-fab frozen mix and didn't cook it long enough. Three, the owner or Manager sat in the restaurant and just stared at everyone. It was a bit disconcerting. He didn't DO anything, he just sat there staring. My advice to you is not to do this. It doesn't feel good to have someone "watching over you" while you're trying to relax and eat. Four, the service was mediocre. While some of the staff were nice, I felt like they weren't very attentive. Five, for the price, it wasn't worth the money at ALL. We won't go back when there are several other Indian restaurants in the area that are far superior.

My friend and I were craving Indian food, so we discovered this place and decided to place an order for pickup. We ordered the saag aloo, malai kofta, chicken curry, vegetable biryani and garlic naan. The malai kofta was by far our favorite dish. It was intensely flavorful and the texture was amazing - I seriously need to learn how to make this! The rice in the vegetable biryani was cooked perfectly (not squishy) and the size of the vegetables were just right. My friend said that his chicken curry was a little dry and that the curry itself was ok, he wasn't terribly impressed for a red curry (but his favorite happens to be yellow curry so...) The only thing we would have done differently was to have gotten the saag aloo a little more spicy (we ordered medium heat). But overall everything was really good (although it can get a bit pricey if you're not careful), and we'll be more than happy to order from here again.

My wife and I had never had Indian food. What a wonderful experience here. We had made reservations just 10 minutes before we arrived through Yelp's Open Table option and I first impressed that as soon as we walked in, the man who greeted us said, "You must be John!" It was very welcoming. Our server (who for some reason my wife thinks was the boss but I'm not sure) was fantastic. She explained the dishes to us and helped us pick something we'd like but also brought out samples of other items knowing it was our first time. We were very impressed and will certainly come back. The food is great and the service was wonderful.

I am wondering how this restaurant is getting more than 1 star in the reviews. I think Gangadin is highly overrated and this is why: 1) First time I went to Gangadin a few months ago on a Saturday for lunch. Found a parking spot, paid for it. Only to find that Gangadin is closed. Anyways, I thought I should have called beforehand but this is the first ever restaurant that was closed on a weekend. 2) Yesterday, I decided to give it a try again and this time ordered a takeway through labite. My order came to above $40 for 2 people including the delivery fee that labite charges. I thought Gangadin deserves the premium because of all these 4 star ratings. But no. My Chicken Jalfrezi and Vegetable Curry both tasted sweet and bland. Chunks of tasteless meat and large chunks of vegetables is their ingredients in both the dishes. I called up the restaurant to explain why my food tasted sweet when I had specifically ordered it to be spicy. I ended up talking with someone who was in denial mode and explained to me that this was their spicy version. What BS!. On top of it, when I said that if this is the spicy version then your food doesn't taste so good and he laughed at me saying 'No, No. The food here is very good!". Come on dude. I, the customer, is telling you that your food is not tasty and you're telling me that I am a liar? If someone from Gangadin is reading this, then please wake up and get out of your denial mode. It would do you good if you read some books by Gordon Ramsay on how to make Indian Food. I will never visit here again, nor recommend it to anyone else.

Really? How did this place score 4 stars? This place isn't awful-awful but it is no where near good! ~ Food: Mediocre at best. Chicken Tikka Masala was runny and taste-wise just ok. The Aloo Gobi was also mediocre. CTM is Grape S and my standard dish and we were definitely not impressed to the point that I wouldn't even compare it to our favourite Indian restaurants in the Valley as it wouldn't do them justice. ~ Service: Awkward. The owner guy tried his best to be nice, but the only other server (an older lady) was weird and creeped me out a little. We had a Groupon so the owner guy took away the lunch specials menu and gave us the regular menu, which makes sense because if not, he'll be giving us a double deal. But still, the way he hurriedly took away the menu from our hands and went to get us the new menu was just awkward - guess I should have mentioned the Groupon from the very moment we sat down to prevent this confusion. ~ Parking: Street only which kind of sucks, but good thing Ventura Place has a lot of meter parking that isn't too much of an issue. ~ Price: Average to a little pricier for Indian food (esp. since we ordered off the regular menu), good thing we had a Groupon ~ Reservations: Not necessary - it was empty the entire time we were there on a Friday at noon-1pm, but make one on opentable.com just cause to earn opentable points (they even have the 1,000 points specials - score!) So yeah, skip this, and hop over to other better Indian restaurants in the Valley.

Awful, awful, awful. Sorry to say. We usually order from Lal Mirch but they have since discontinued their simosas so we thought that we would try somewhere else. so... the ONLY thing that was good here were the lamb simosas. We ordered the chicken tikki masala and lamb vindaloo, honey milk dumplings, and garlic naan. We will go back for the lamb simosas but if you want some good indian food Lal Mirch is where its at!

Went here for lunch with my wife and friend on a Sunday. Be warned that there is some kind of street fair right outside the restaurant that may or may not be a regular thing, but it sure makes parking a lot harder. When we arrived, the restaurant was half full, and two of the occupied tables had multiple children, so a reviewer's statements of "family-friendliness" hold true. After being seated, we were greeted by an older male server that proceeded to joke with us (hopefully) about giving us extra opium or ganja. He said they were thinking of opening a second restaurant called Ganjadin...it was entertaining but confusing. He explained our the lunch combos worked, gave us a minute to peruse the menu, then we flagged him down and placed three orders to share. There are a good number of standard Indian dishes here, but surprisingly very few seafood options. I saw shrimp listed in only one item and it was a salad. Strangely limiting, but whatever. We got the chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, and aloo ghobi (all ordered as spicy). We also asked for a couple of orders of garlic naan. Each dish came with a little cup of rice, a small salad, some kind of lentil soup, and yogurt with veggies in it. We got plates to dump the rice out and mix with the main dishes. None of the three main dishes were very spicy. Like others have noted, a little more would be nice. The chicken was tender and plentiful in a nice standard tikka masala sauce. The lamb was surprisingly tender and tasty in a solid brown sauce. The aloo ghobi was a nice standard rendition as well. The garlic naan looked covered in dried garlic, but it wasn't very garlicy tasting, so it must have been something else. Nothing was poorly cooked or tasted bad. Nothing really wowed us either. The cup of rice was a bit small. The salad was nothing special. The lentil soup needed salt but made a decent filler. The total bill came to $38 and there were no leftovers. I suppose $12/person is a decent price, but not stellar. The service was attentive, albeit strange and somewhat limited from going the extra distance (for example, when our water glasses were refilled, a female server asked us to hand our water glasses to her so she wouldn't have to go around to the other side of the table). Summary: Food is good quality and has a good taste. Not spicy even when ordered as such for those who can't handle lots of heat. Service is friendly but strange and not what you would expect at most restaurants. Parking is a pain at lunch on sundays because of the street fair. Prices are a bit high for the quantity of food you get. Good but in no way stands out as great.

I was at Farmers Market today needing something healthy to eat. As I was about to leave I saw the sign Indian Food. Gluten Free... wow right up my alley. The food was delicious and priced just right. The $10 combination plate was just what I needed. If you are at Farmers Market in Studio City - sunday before 1pm check out Gangadin Restaurant... Then sit in the grass as I did and enjoy weather, people watch and your meal.

Honestly I do not understand the raving reviews I see for this place from other yelpers. This place is mediocre at best. 1. This place is more expensive than other Indian places in the neighborhood. 2. The portions are smaller 3. Service is ok 4. Decor is extremely dark Additinally we ordered take out that ended up being over $50 for 2 items plus rice and app and the tikka masala literally had like 5-6 tiny pieces oh chicken. Not the worst I have ever had but can definetly get better Indian food for less within a one mile radius.

The best Indian food in Los Angeles hands down!!! Alright...full disclosure, my husband and I have been eating Gangadin as take out once a week for years now. Friday night is Din night at our house. The one night that we don't have to make a decision about dinner. Now I get it, take out on a Friday doesn't sound that exciting but when you have a one year old it is the best! Settle in with a nice bottle of wine and a couple of orders of Chicken Tikka Masala and we are happy campers! Now so you understand how good the food is here, we drive our sorry selves to pick up our order since we are outside of their delivery area. Not that their delivery area is small but we live by the 405 and they are all the way in Studio City. I'm just saying that's how DELICIOUS it is. Every Friday we are enthusiastically greeted by everyone in there, asked how the baby is and offered a glass of water. It's hard to find people that care that much in Los Angeles. There have been moments when we've gotten lazy and ordered take out from some of the many Indian food restaurants that will deliver to our place. It's never as good. Almost always it is a watery mess comparatively. We always regret cheating on Gangadin, long drive or no. We went to London a few years back and had Indian food by expats from India that was supposed to be amazing. It wasn't as good as Gangadin. They've been in business for decades now because they are doing something right.

**Updated to 4 stars after last night's dinner - evening's fare is fresher, tangier, and deserving of higher praise! Lunch is good, but dinner is simply excellent. Celiac sufferers desiring excellent Indian food need look no further! Gangadin has a special gluten-free menu just for us. The Paneer Pakoras make up for all the frustrating meals spent watching my compatriots happily tucking into their nan. All of the sauces are gluten-free. Many of the lunch specials are entirely gluten-free. In many restaurants, gluten-free is code for "tastes like cardboard." Not Gangadin - the gluten-free fare is just as good as the "nan" (so my non-Celiac-suffering friends tell me). All kidding aside, the gluten-free offerings are delicious. This foodie is happy to have found Gangadin. The restaurant is family-owned and the service delightful.

Honestly the place gets 4 stars mainly because it's so close to my house and the quality is pretty good. NOT the best Indian food I have ever had by any stretch, and the service left a lot to be desired. However if you're looking for Indian food in Studio City with easy access, it's worth it. Prices were totally reasonable.

Delicious! The best matter paneer! Service was fantastic and the owner is super friendly! They use fresh veg from the Sunday farmers market for a lunch buffet that sounds delicious and extremely affordable. We'll absolutely be back for that!

Finally made it here with my Living Social voucher a few days ago. It is simply decorated and does not have floor seating, but the quality of the food made up for that. The service was friendly, although I did feel as if they kept us waiting for awhile (possibly because of the voucher?). As another reviewer said, they took away the lunch menu and gave us the full menu since we had purchased the voucher. I was definitely bummed about that and wished that it had been noted when we purchased the voucher. However, we did have a wider variety of choices with the latter menu. We ordered a mango lassi, green chili chicken, lamb jalfreezi, kashmiri rice (with nuts and dried fruits), onion kulcha, and channa masala (and were given some plain naan with all of that). The lassi was quite sweet at the bottom and was probably the only thing we would not order, again. Just no wow factor. The lamb, rice, naan, and channa masala, however, were the opposite. The lamb was so flavorful, tender, and spicy without being hot; the masala was really fresh; and the sweet and saltiness of the rice was a great compliment to the other dishes. The chicken and onion kulcha were good, but they were way overshadowed by the other items. We had enough leftovers for one more meal (which I gobbled up a few nights later:). Including the $30 voucher, tax, and tip, the bill came to about $65. It definitely was no cheap, and we probably would have been better off just coming in for the lunch specials. Live and learn. That is what we will do next time. :)

True Indian food. Ordered medium plus for spicy level. They were not kidding around. Maybe it was the green chili shrimp just being extra hot, but my head was on fire! Also got the veggie samosas, which were so tasty I devoured them before I knew what was happening. The bhartha (mashed eggplant) was incredible. Lamb vindaloo was okay. Sauce was not robust enough. Owner is super nice and friendly. Great place for a date.

I'm giving 4 stars because the food is good. Now... There is one woman server who is not nice at all! A little bit on the rude and lazy side. She ALWAYS stands on one side of the table to sticks out her hand gesturing YOU to pass her your water glass as she sticks her hand in front of everyone's face. A normal server would walk around the table to reach the glasses themselves. Also, she will see that when we are finished, she WILL NOT pick up the dirty plates even though we have already neatly stacked them for her to take them away. She'll wait for another server to clear the table, or she will wait until we ask another server to clear the table for us. Everyone else there is super nice and the food is really good, but we always dread coming in because we're afraid that we'll get that server....meh!

Gluten free. Let me start off by saying that the majority of the menu is gluten free, coupled with many vegan options. The owner himself states his menu is "85% gluten free and always has been" - since the opened in 1984. We came on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty packed, but the service was stellar. Constant refills on our beverages, as soon as we were ready to order, the owner himself took our order. I explained my gluten free needs, and he made a special appetizer for our party. All suggestions by the staff were superb. We talked to the owner at length, a very personable, cool guy. The spices were perfect. Perhaps the best Indian food I have ever had - and it was all gluten and dairy free. We liked it so much we returned the following night, for an even better experience. Chicken Tikka Marsala, Lamb Vindaloo, all Saag dishes, chickpeas... all outstanding.

I'm not sure how this slipped thru my review writing cracks, because I'd eat here every day if I could. My wife and I fell in love with this place when we moved to Sherman oaks in 2009. Never had a bad meal here or with delivery. Ever. Always fantastic. We're fans of the chicken curries and masala, i'm also smitten with the lamb dishes. Naan is just the best bread in the world. The staff is super courteous and the owners are just the nicest people you'll ever meet. Yummy.

I don't know how people can give this restaurant 5 starts?!!!!! The food was far from authentic! I guess if your taste buds are dead and have no concept of what real Indian food tastes like then I guess you would give this place 5 stars. To start the service was not very friendly. There's nothing warm in this place. We ordered samosas, no flavor. The lentil soup was decent. Had the WORST rice with peas. The rice was cold, the peas looked like they were thrown on top right from the can. Again, no flavor at all. I can cook better rice at home. The spinach paneer dish was very soupy and not tasty. I don't like to give bad reviews to restaurants but this one was very disappointing. Needless to say I would not recommend this place nor go back there. There is another Indian Restaurant on Ventura Blvd closer to Whitsett (something India) which is better. The best Indian food is on this side of the hill. India's Grill on San Vicente and La Cienega is pretty damn good.

I've been here a couple of times and I haven't been disappointed yet. Their food is very good. It's a small space, which makes it very intimate and home-like. The owner is very friendly and attentive to his patrons. Their cheese naan is incredible!

This succulent beauty of a restaurant is my favorite spot for Date Night with my Husband. Last night we went to celebrate our "getting together" anniversary. My faith in Gangadin remains unshaken, as always. We had an amazing meal, starting with Vegetable Samosas filled with savory seasoned potatoes and peas. I am attempting to go Pescatarian (thanks Mary-Alex A.!) so I ordered the Shrimp Masala. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, so I was a little nervous, but I shouldn't have been. The shrimp were huge, succulent and so tender they melted in your mouth. I maaaaaay have been quoted as say something like "OMG, I think my mouth just had an orgasm." Since my husband is allergic to shellfish, he could not share in the carnal bliss of my shrimp, so he ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, and I am told it was delicious as always. We shared a dish of Vegetable Basmati Rice and an order of Garlic Naan as well. Both were spectacular and flavorful as always. About halfway through our meal, the owners older son came over to say hi. He and his father are always friendly and welcoming, and it's always nice to see them. When he asked how we were enjoying our meal tonight, I told him the Shrimp Masala was my new favorite dish. He told me the shrimp are actually from India. God, I love this place! Fresh shrimp from India?! How awesome is that?! He also told us they are developing an iPhone app for the Restaurant. You'll be able to order through the app, view menu items and more. That is just plain awesome. Also, at the Studio City Farmers Market, which is on the street right outside the restaurant every Sunday morning, they are going to be selling snack boxes of some of their most popular dishes. If I remember right, the prices were $5 and $10 depending on what was in the box. I love that! Grab all your fresh fruits and veggies and then pick up lunch in a flash! Great thinking! On our way out we stopped to thank the owner for yet another wonderful meal, and he congratulated us on our anniversary, and gave us a gift of a handwritten OM and the many meanings it has. So thoughtful and wonderful. Thank you so much!

I used to eat here a lot when I had a friend who worked around the corner from Gangadin. It's been about four years since I'd been back (for no other reason than hating to drive in the awful traffic across the valley to get there). They totally spoiled me from other Indian restaurants: the food was fresh and spicy, where the spices and heat accentuated the flavors instead of overwhelming them like some Indian places do. I can report that they are as amazing as I remember them being. The food was fresh and spicy and the chutney's were heavenly. They have the best naan-- particularly the garlic naan and the onion kulcha. Other things to try: their Vindaloo is excellent and I actually like the Okra Curry (can't stand okra in any other dish I've had it in, but here it's pretty nice). The Saag is to die for: amazingly rich and flavorful, where you can really taste the subtleties of the spinach. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Another nice thing (for us, not necessarily for them) is that there is rarely a wait for a table in the evening-- even on a Friday or Saturday. As someone who loves good food but hates waits, this is excellent.

The restaurant was near my massage therapist's location. So I walked over after a massage to give it a try. The interior was really nice. Beautiful and subtle decorating, quiet atmosphere, table cloths, etc. I ordered mattar paneer and a small bottle of Kingfisher beer. I eat low-carb, so I generally don't order any naan or rice. Good: - Bottle of beer was cold and glass was chilled - Atmosphere was nice, relaxing - Cup of water was constantly being refilled - Service was friendly Bad: - Expensive ($10.50 for mattar paneer, more expensive than anywhere else I've had this dish) - Mattar Paneer was watery, unflavorful - Tiny portions I value quality of food more than atmosphere, and I expected *great* quality for a $10.50 plate of mattar paneer. It was extremely disappointing. If I could, I would have given them 1.5 stars. The experience was not entirely deserving of 2 stars. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I definitely won't be going back.

I have been wanting to go here for some time. 1. Its really close to where i live and 2. They have an extensive vegan menu. With Indian food this is extremely helpful. I was sooo happy I could get vegan naan, vegan saag tofu and vegan rice all at a spice level I can handle. Seriously mild. Most Indian places don't like to cater to the extremely mild but hey it is what it is. I can't handle spice at all but I love the Indian flavors. So here I get the best of both worlds. The owner is very personable and always around. The staff seemed a little behind but still attentive enough when I tried to grab their eye. The rest of my party were meat eaters and loved all their dishes. They went with Coconut lamb dishes and shrimp curries. We were all really happy with our meal. The only thing I would like to see is a dinner combo plate. Having to get everything ala carte is expensive but I suppose works for big parties. Since then I have even gotten orders for pick up. Finally an Indian restaurant in my area that I can venture to with meat eaters, vegans, spice enthusiasts and flavor lovers. Now they just need a vegan rice pudding....

I decided to come here based on the reviews and a Yelp deal. The food was reasonably good...the Chicken Tikka Masala was alright and the Garlic Naan was great. However, I think this place is too expensive for the food you are given. Most Indian restaurants I have been to include rice with the meal, but here, you have to pay extra. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed...but I will most likely try other Indian restaurants before deciding whether to return to this one.

I love their Chicken Tikka-Masala. I feel like maybe it used to taste a lot better though. This place used to be my favorite... but the last 2 times I went, it seemed to me something was missing. I don't know. I will go again hoping that it will return to the deliciousness I remember from years ago. :)

Worst experience ever! I live in Valley Village and I support restaurants in the area and needless to say I have never been made to feel low in my entire life. After being seated at this restaurant, we waited for around 20 minutes for someone to approach us. Now we were seated directly in front of the kitchen and in front of the bar. Servers kept passing us, refilling drinks, and spending time in other tables except ours. And this whole time no one bothered to take our order. I told myself they were busy and it was no big deal, but the truth is that the restaurant was not packed. Before I continue, I would like to say that we were well dressed and groomed. My girlfriend and I are Hispanic so that may have been a factor in their attitude. During this time, one of the server ladies came by and (without me knowing) rudely whispered to my girlfriends ear to 'move her purse under the table where it belongs'. Then she walked away. I noticed my girlfriend was a little distraught but she didn't say anything. We kept waiting until two younger white ladies came in. They were IMMEDIATELY seated, served drinks and had their order taken. My jaw dropped and when the server walked by I kindly asked the man if he could please give us some service. I kid you not, he took out an imaginary violin and starting playing it. Then he started singing a Beatles song. Now if the server would've introduced himself, or he joked with us before hand I would've taken it as a joke. But it was very offensive. I politely laughed and gave him my order. He insisted on correcting my every mispronunciation even though I speak perfect English, however I am unaware of Indian cuisine items. After our order was taken he looked back and ordered the server lady to give us water. The server lady rudely told us to move our menu. And literally threw our plates within a few inches of the table instead of kindly placing them. This was it for us! We got up and left immediately. I have never felt so discriminated in my life. Sorry yelp but you have let me down. I wouldn't go back to this place if you paid me. More than likely the owner will post more 5 star fake reviews to drown out my 1 star.

The best Indian food restaurant in Studio City. Garlic Naan is amazing.... Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Korma are top notch every time we order.. Great for nights when you do not feel like cooking dinner!

I came with my husband on our way home from the monterey bay area. We were starving and this place had such good reviews (not to mention we LOVE Indian food) so we decided to try it. overall the food was not bad. We ordered a vegetable biryami, samosas, chicken tikka massala and channa massala. The tamarind sauce was AMAZING and the rice was pretty good. Everything else was just ok. The portions were way too small for the price. Everything is a la carte for dinner so I expected bigger portions. It cost $40 for 2 of us. We could have gotten more food for half the price somewhere else. Had the flavors been out of this world then maybe it would have been worth it. For me, it wasn't. My advice: Save your money and go to one of the many other Indian Restaurants around. Overall: Too much money for average food and small portions.

By far my favorite Indian restaurant! I probably frequent this place too much, but it's absolutely wonderful. The staff is so friendly, they really treat us like family. I order the veggie korma everytime and it's so so good!!

As a vegetarian, this place was not very good. As an Indian, I can't compare restaurants to how our moms cook, but this place was probably the worst indian food I've ever tasted. The samosas were terrible. It had the most bland aloo (potato) filling I have ever tasted, and it also tasted frozen and reheated. We also ordered the palak paneer, and the palak was flavorless and the paneer tasted like it was made weeks earlier. Paneer is supposed to melt in your mouth, and I had to chew through it like it was a piece of rubber. The Malai Kofta was dry and hard on the inside, again tasted like it was frozen and then reheated. The masala used in the malai kofta was also thick and dry, tasted weeks old and reconstituted. Also, I didn't particularly like how the waitress (non-indian) didn't know anything about the food itself. So when I asked certain questions about the menu, she had no idea what I was talking about. It's not a prerequisite that the waitresses be Indian, but they should have gone through some crash course about indian cooking and the food the restaurant serves. Meat-eaters seem to love this place. As a vegetarian & as an Indian, I think this place is not very good, over-priced, and would never eat here again. Unfortunately, we just moved to studio city so I have no idea where the really great places are, if any. I'm sorry to be so harsh, but if you are looking at the quality of vegetarian food, freshness, and price, I can't recommend going here despite all the 4 and 5 star reviews.

Loved the samosas and all around LOVE the food here. Also, they were very, very accommodating for our 11 month old and even brought out a light up toy for her when she was getting fussy. Our baby loved the food as well. Highly recommend this place.

My daughter and I had lunch here after visiting the open air farmers market I must say the food was fantastic we both finished our plates. The garlic naan was out of theis world in goodness. The bathrooms were spotless on our visit which is important for us. I do however have a few minor complaints 1. The salt shaker haven't been cleaned in a long time there is dried gunk on them 2. The water glasses were hazy and unclean to me I don't know if they have a hard water issue there but it was kind of gross 3 no customer service whatsoever once our food was served were never saw the wait staff ... Not even for a how's everything or to refill our filmy water glasses. But nevertheless we will come back the food was amazing I can't wait to bring the hubby.

Just had a very nice dinner there. They have a nice family-run restaurant. Good service and respectable Indian food. The flavors were mild, which was fine for our group. But, I wished for a bit more spice. Loved the idea of highlighting the Vegan dishes on a separate menu. The brown rice was really great as were the poppadams.

Great local place for Indian food. Ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and Garlic Naan. The vindaloo is delicious and spicy, but not overly so. Naan is freshly baked. Notes: - Great place to eat in as well as to-go - Clean, cozy ambience - Friendly and courteous staff - A variety of reds A must for returning.

review based on 1 delivery order. -garlic naan - not bad. 2 big pieces. -lamb samosas- VERY good, best ive had in a while actually -lamb korma- VERY good. -Chicken Tikka Masala- chicken left much to be desired, sauce was ok but nothing to write home about. At $13, I get to be picky about this dish, and it just didn't do it for me.

Wow! What a gem Gangadin is!! Enjoyed a wonderful dinner meal here and felt part of the family. This restaurant is run by a family and they are the waiters, greeters and maitre' d. This is reason for the warm, cozy and loved feeling that just leaks form this place. You can really tell that everything they place in front of you is a labor of love. That is not only my favorite and the best part about the restaurant, it's the true unique item that separates Gangadim from other indian restaurants.

When the average restaurant has a shelf life of less than 2 years, this place has lasted over 20 years with good reason. The food is consistent and wonderful. Their veggie korma is just rightly spiced, not greasy nor too creamy. If I am looking for no frills, high quality Indian, I always count on them to deliver....years after year.

To start off with, the staff is nice & friendly. My only favorite thing to get is the chicken masala and garlic naan. I like to eat those two together. Other places that I went to, it was horrible. It tasted like....tomato sauce. But their chicken masala tastes divine. I dont know what they put in it or how fattening or unhealthy it is....but I really don't care. I look for consistency....and they pretty much have that covered. I've order from them about 5 times now. Just only yesterday did I experience a tiny disappointment. I've always ordered my meal a particular way....extra garlic and cilantro on the garlic naan and less chicken, more sauce on the masala. And what i got was extra garlic, no cilantro. And they gave me more chicken, less sauce on the masala. And believe me, it was not busy at all. I still enjoyed my meal but was a little confused as to why there was a mistake this time despite the fact that it was not busy at all. My mom was pretty surprised when she found out the price for these two items....around 17$. Just a small bowl of masala and two pieces of naan. No rice, no sides or anything included. I'm giving them 4 stars because of the taste & flavor that I love. Minus one star for the experience and price. But I will be back.

Love this place. Order from and go there all the time. The food is hearty and delicious, the service is great. Every one there is warm and friendly from the owner to the wait staff. It's a family business which is also great. All of which would mean nothing if the food wasn't excellent. Highly recommend and wish it much continuing success.

Gangadin, you took a little slip, but have more than made up for it! I have not encountered a restaurant with better customer service. Sangmeet and his family run a great business and stand by their food, which they should, because it is excellent! We will be regulars once again! Thank you so much to Gangadin for making me believe that good customer care is not a thing of the past!

This place is delicious but definitely not the best indian food I've had in studio city. My only critique was that the service was pretty slow for it being as empty as it was, and the jasmine rice was really dry and not very delicious. Good place to try, but will probably try other places in the future.

My husband and I love Indian food and our favorite Indian restaurant is Gangadin in Studio City. We like it so much that when we were married in 1996, we had Gangadin cater our wedding dinner. All these years later, we still like to order the same dishes we shared at our Indian "wedding feast". Of course we try new ones every now and then, but when we feel like some comforting curry goodness, we always get the following: Onion Pakoras - Shredded onions, dredged in spiced gram flour and deep-fried. Papadum - Spiced crispy Indian crackers baked on an open flame. Raita- A Wonderfully refreshing yogurt blended with cucumbers, spices and tomatoes. Perfect to cool off a spicy mouth! Mango Chutney- A tart and sweet condiment that you order separately. Chicken Tikka- Chunks of boneless chicken marinated in spices and yogurt and then grilled over the Tandoor flames. Garlic Naan - Fluffy garlic naan bread that's baked in a traditional Tandoor oven. (We each have to have our own!) Saag Paneer- Small chunks of cheese in a delicious spinach mixture. You can ask for this dish extra spicy if you want. Note: If you are sure that you can handle the heat, then tell them to make it "traditional spicy". Chicken Korma- This is our favorite dish at Gangadin. It's a mild curry flavor, marinated chicken. You can ask for it spicy, but beware... it's REALLY spicy! Rice Pudding - Super sweet, but a really nice finish to a spicy Indian dinner. The pistachio chips on top add great texture to the pudding. Kingfisher Beer - For me, an Indian meal is not complete without drinking one or two (or sometimes three!) Kingfishers. Photos on mylastbite.wordpress.com…

The first time we went to this restaurant, we had high hopes because of all the great yelp comments. We had grown tired of trying every Indian restaurant in the valley and being constantly disappointed by gross food, poor service and tacky decor. The son of the owner was our waiter for a weekday lunch. He was fantastic, and even substituted their delicious homemade paneer cheese for the chicken in their chicken tikka dish. The lunch prices were very reasonable, and they refill your sides endlessly if you get the lunch combo. The location is pretty great - I wish we lived within their delivery range, but needless to say it's worth the drive. The only downsides are that If you go for dinner, the prices go way up, and I don't think you get any more food.... Also, the other staff members usually aren't very attentive, and the wait for food is usually a little longer than I would expect. But it's well worth the wait, because the food is definitely the best I have found in the valley! It was especially fun to go there during the studio city sunday farmers market....

Gangadin is a very good Indian cuisine restaurant. I went there with some of my friend and we ordered some different dishes. The different dishes were all delicious in their own way and I especailly loved the Korma sauce. The employees are very nice and the owner is a really nice and funny guy who makes you feel welcome.

In my quest to find MY Indian place, I've eaten here several times, both in restaurant and take-out. To start, the staff is great. They've always been sweet dining in, over the phone, and when we've gone to just pick up the food. They've never made a mistake on our orders. They are also at our farmer's market every weekend selling their sauces and foods with a smile, and they offer a menu that lists their vegan options. The food, however, has been inconsistent. Our first time there we were pretty unsatisfied. We gave them another chance and were blown away!! Then the next time both my boyfriend and I had diarrhea. Then the next time it was good, but not great. It bums me out because the menu is great with a lot of choices, and again, the staff is great, but Indian food is hands down my favorite cuisine, so I will forge forward to find food that is just more consistent. Your bill can rack up pretty quickly as well, so keep an eye on it!

Simply, THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!! The food is flavorful and satisfying. I've eaten in nearly 100 countries. I would put Gangadin up against many eateries I have sampled in my travels. Veggie dishes are satisfying and flavorful. The lamb is AWESOME!!!! My only negative is that I wish the lamb chops came in a larger portion. The chops made me ravenous! I'm headed by the Sunday Market that goes on outside on the street right now. They get the fresh veggies that are sourced locally and make their dishes with FRESH veggies. I think I will grab a Samosa or 2 for lunch.

Really awesome lunch specials. Separate vegan menu. I felt confident knowing I was eating animal-free food. When I ordered the lunch special that comes with raita, they even gave me a choice of extra lentils, rice, or salad instead of just leaving it off! It wasn't the most flavorful- or spicy- Indian food I've ever had, but when they asked me if my food was spicy enough and I admitted it wasn't, they offered to recook it. I didn't take them up on the offer, but I think that shows a true quality of service. I will definitely be back because even though it's not the best-best I've had, the quality of the service and the comfort of having a vegan menu make it a stand-out.

  • Jacob A.

Definitely not a 4.5 star restaurant. First off, the service was really weak. We had to ask for water, and every time we needed more, we had to ask again (so 2-3 times). And the look you get for asking for water... Then the food. It wasn't bad, but nothing special by far. For $13 however, I would expect more than 5 bites of chicken tikka masala. Especially since it's nothing special. I wasn't even very hungry going in, and yet I still needed to go get some more food afterward. I'm glad I tried it though, because now I know without a doubt that I'm not coming back.

Truly, as good as it gets. This little family-owned and operated Indian restaurant tucked away in Studio City serves up love on a platter! The flavors are incredible. And, by incredible I mean "Holy mother of PEARL!!! Give me some mo'!" Vegan & Vegetarian friendly, with an emphasis on 'friendly' which is always awesome. The owner and staff are all just so pleasant. The garlic naan melts in your mouth. DO IT!! Eat here. You'll be back. ...save me a bite!

I'm all for trying different Indian restaurants, which typically have an overflow of spices with really strong flavors, that beg you to continue eating to satisfy the palate! So dinner time came and I ordered for delivery Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Samosas and rice. Delivery was fast, the portions were generous, although more on the pricier side. The Chicken Tikka Masala was OK, but I felt it was missing some spices to round up the taste. The rice was just plain white rice, with no saffron or spices which might have contributed to the lower flavor intensity (should have ordered a different type of rice). Need more spices to satisfy this palate. The Samosas were very good, not oily, and with great flavor. Delivery and eating in are of course different experiences, so I will certainly try this place again, but likely eating at the restaurant to contrast the experience.

This place definitely isn't your average Kwik E Mart food, the spinach cheese dish is probably the best I've had at any Indian restaurant but the chicken in the Chicken Vindaloo was a bit over-cooked. Anyway, great service - real friendly Indian waiter who cracked jokes about the most random things (2.5 hour energy and stuff haha) sadly if it weren't for the over cooked chicken and the leaking roof it'd get a 5-star.

Went for lunch and tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Lamb Curry, Veggie samosas, Garlic Naan, and Vegetable Korma. All really good but nothing was very spicy! We ordered medium so next time I guess we will have to up the spice level. I added lots of the chili sauce and cilantro sauce to make up for it's absence, and the side of yogurt they give you is tasty as well.

Gangadin is my favorite place for Indian food! It's a family-owned and operated restaurant where the staff remembers and is always happy to see you. The owner, Manmeet, often stops by tables to check on you and everyone is pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy, with white table cloths, cloth napkins and dim lighting. The food is the best Indian I've had and every time I eat somewhere else, it doesn't come close to Gangadin. I recommend the vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Highly recommended, definitely the best Indian food in the Valley and probably all of L.A.

Indian is my favorite food and my father-in-law introduced me to this place. We like to share and get alot of different things, so Indian food is perfect for this. Their chicken tikka-marsala is pretty good - not the best but still good. The garlic nan is tasty, and we eat lots of it. Their raita is really fresh tasting and just chunky enough. We like the curried lamb and their green chile paneer is very tasty. Now, since I am not Indian and really have no Indian friends, Indian family and have never been to India - I am hoping that this place is pretty authentic Indian food. The staff is very friendly and we never leave unsatisfied.

I love Indian food. But, a lot of times you go have Indian food, and most of the dishes look and taste the same. Gangadin is just ridiculous. Fabulous, delicious, I dream about this place now. So, I come into this restaurant with the family for the first time. The atmosphere is clean comfort and very pleasant. The staff is really super friendly and they are so nice to my kids. Super friendly. Okay, now the food. Mind you, two of us are vegetarians and the other two are omnivores. But, we are all foodies. Vegetable curry- wonderful mixed vegetables, savory spices with some bite Lamb Curry, Saag paneer, pakoras, samosas, mango lassi, oh!! and the naan!! (the onion naan) Sorry, I'm just listing now. We've eaten nearly half the menu and I'm very pleased to say that everything is absolutely fantastic! I'm salivating as I write this. I'm starving. It's time to go back.

My first time trying Indian cuisine and guess what? I loved it. My dinner companions have been eating this cuisine for a long time and they dragged me with them.. This is a sweet little restaurant on a quaint neighborhood street with polite, professional service on well appointed linen draped tables. The food was fresh and delicious. We will go back!

It's just not that good. The food is bland, the service is sloooow. The rice was dry. The frozen Indian entrees at Trader Joe's are literally 100 times better. Enough said.

My boyfriend and I just got home from experiencing Gangadin for the first time, and needless to say, we LOVED it! The restaurant is quaint with pretty candles on every table. The service was great. The owner came up to us and was extremely friendly. He even gave us a free appetizer for it being our first time there. I overheard the boy at the next table over saying he was the son of the owner.. we loved that the place was a family run business. We ordered the veggie samosas to start and they were delicious, and huge! He said they're mostly baked, and you could definitely tell - they were pretty light and didn't make us feel like we had just eaten something fried and heavy. The naan was warm, fluffy and perfect for our Chicken Tikka Masala and rice. All of that and for a little over $20? Perfect. We will definitely be coming back. Oh and on a side note, they sell their own sauces at the local farmers market AND they have a whole vegan menu. Awesome.

ok so i found this restaurant because the other indian resturant we were going to didnt serve wine. It was my fathers birthday and he enjoys wine so our 1st two choices went out of the picture. We had a hell of a time finding this place! Even saying at times "lets go somewhere else". But when we got this we got greeted like we were family. The entire night Manmeet (owner) chatted with us, at times sitting down at our table sharing his lovely stories with us. Its was theee best birthday we have had in many years. It was just US family and the people at Gangadin made us feel like we were part of the family. Now lets not skip the food part. Im a picky man when it comes to indian food and no matter how good the service is, if the food is bad i'll let people know. The veggie pakora was excellent. It was so soft. The chicken tikka was ok and the chicken tandori was excellent (so tender). We then ordered the chicken tikka masala (excellent and spicy) and then the aloo ghobi (for mom, good too). The Lamb was next and it was very soft. Im not a big lamb eater but this was good. The Naan was excellent as well. We ordered all the different flavors to see which one we liked and didnt. And honestly they were all good. overall this places is great. They take care of you like family. I am a forever fan of this place. Manmeet (owener) and his son (sanmeet) are great and if you dont believe me, just step in for a lunch or dinner. FYI: fri and sat is impossiable to get a seat!! so try the take out or another day.

So...I don't quite get the reviews on this place...my wife and I are regulars at Great India Cafe. The food there is pretty good. And, at times, we wonder if there is better Indian Food in Studio City. So, I checked Yelp, and based on the mostly positive reviews, I was expecting something special. I would note 'Jacob Z's' recent review and say that I feel the exact same thing! The service was super-slow, the food bland, it's overpriced, and there wasn't one thing worth remembering except our wondering, "why do so many people come here?" My answer is, probably because the owner is so nice! But, to pick a spot more than once, I think the food must be the main event. I'll be going back to Great India Cafe over this place, and ultimately, if I want the best Indian food I know of, I'll be heading to Pasadena to eat at Akbar's.

Amazing Vegan menu! Food was excellent & the service fantastic. Menu also includes meat, vegetarian & gluten free options (clearly marked), so something for everyone. Saag tofu, chickpea dishes & breads w/ their chutney selections are delicious. Great prices & ambience. Beer/Wine. Did I mention the fantastic Vegan menu?

I got a little lost finding this place as I didn't read the Mapquest directions carefully, but no worries. We parked on the street in front of the restaurant which has those fancy meters. The restaurant is small and all the tables for guests of two are right smack in the middle which I didn't like because there's a lot of traffic with the waiters and servers. We ordered the following: Garlic Naan: excellent Keema Aloo: excellent curry with minced lamb and potatoes Chicken Vindaloo: okay curry type dish; if you like a lot of tomato flavor, then this is your dish Okra: excellent; mixed with onions and cumin seeds Basmati rice: no problem Overall, we really enjoyed the food. Service was non-existent after our dishes were delivered, but we could have easily flagged someone down because there's a lot of foot traffic. The only downside for me is the restaurant is small and the tables are very close together if you end up in the center row of tables. What can I say? I like to have my space. Men's bathroom is built inefficiently...You open the door and then open the stall door which has both the urinal and toilet side by side. This didn't make sense to me.

I have eaten here SEVERAL times over the past 8 years, and I am never ever disappointed. This place is consistent in flavor and service. The owner is a gracious man. He is always close by, and doesn't hesitate to stop by and make sure the food is nothing less than great. This a family run restaurant. And they are doing everything RIGHT. Spicy means spicy, and mild means mild. The garlic naan is chewy and delicious. The vindaloo is amazing. And the vegetable biryani is packed with wonderful fresh veggies. I am, and forever will be a fan of this place.

I had a lot of expectations going in to Gangadin from all the reviews I had read. It sounded too good to be true, and truth be told, for me it wasn't the be-all end-all of Indian restaurants that I hoped it would be, though it was very good. The restaurant itself is fairly small. You could miss it when you drive by if you weren't looking for it. Inside, it does feel a bit small, but not uncomfortable. When we arrived we were immediately led to an available table by the owner, who was very nice. There were several tables put together in the middle of the room, so we knew a big group would be there shortly, so we wanted to hurry up and order so we wouldn't have to fight for service. The group did come, and I think our service did suffer a bit, but it wasn't terrible by any means; however, the server who brought us our food didn't speak to us at all, which we thought was a bit weird. She just put our food down in front of us while looking in another direction and then took off. Later she spilled water on our table when she refilled a glass and then just walked away. But other than that our service was good by everyone else who we encountered. When I go to an Indian restaurant I will almost always order chicken curry, rice, and plain naan. It's pretty much my test for Indian food. So that's what I ordered at Gangadin, and while it was good and spicy, I think I prefer the curry at nearby Lal Mirch. Gangadin's curry just seemed to lack some of the great curry flavor of Lal Mirch's chicken curry. The naan was very good and very fresh and obviously came right out of the oven, which was nice. All that being said, I did enjoy my meal. I don't know if it was the heat of the day, or all the people from the big group there with us in a small room, but the longer I sat there, the warmer and warmer I was getting. I've had spicy curry a lot before and it doesn't usually make me hot, so I'm pretty sure the room was just stuffy, but toward the end it was making me uncomfortable enough that I was really ready to leave. The group was also fairly noisy which didn't help, but I don't fault the restaurant for that at all. I will definitely go back to Gangadin. I'll have to go on a cooler day and try to avoid big groups. I have to commend the owner and the mostly helpful and very friendly wait staff for an overall good experience.

Overpriced for quantity. Decent food. Mediocre service. I would not bother to go back, even if i were hungry. Extremely overpriced for a tiny portion and mostly mediocre food. I could not get water or chai to save my life. Skip it, I say.

The foods here are sensational. We always order their lamb and vegetable samosas. They taste better than any others we've ever had. I absolutely love love love their Keema Kofta! It's absolutely delicious! Actually, everything that we've ever had here have been delicious. They even have free delivery, making it convenient for dinner :P Service is great!

Brought my aunt and uncle here for dinner last Friday night---they both gave this place 4 stars. I, on the other hand give this place a 2.95, but rounding up because service was really good + I don't have much to compare to since I haven't been to an Indian Restaurant before---only had it once or twice when my friend brought me some to-go(from a different place). SERVICE: 5 stars--our waitress was very attentive and informative(it was my aunt and uncle's first time trying Indian food) + the owner was very friendly---he even offered a sample of "Indian Kimchi," which was interesting but too vinegary for my taste. -- Onion naan: good, but I prefer garlic better. -- Vegetable samosas: pretty good. -- Onion pakora: over soaked with oil and the curry flavor was too over powering for my taste----it kinda had an old oil funk. -- Chicken Tikka Masala: good, but not great -- Shrimp (forgot the name of curry---it had ginger, onion, chili, etc): decent -- Vegetable Basmatic rice: the curry flavor was overwhelming, but I like the variety of veggies they mixed into the rice. -- Rice pudding: refreshing -- Chai tea: refreshing. Bottom line: With 4.5 stars of yelp ratings, I expected more from this restaurant. The portions were small: the appetizers and sides were fairly priced. However---the curry was very pricey for the portion. With that said, I'm on a new mission: to find good Indian food. Any recommendations?

For my money, it's the best Indian food I've had in a while. Never eaten in, but delivery is fast and always hot. My favorites are the Chicken Tikka Masala. Go for the Garlic Naan, although at $3 for 2-pieces it's a little pricey. Grab 2 servings and split it between three people, and you're sure to have a great meal.

The food was strictly ok. It was not bad but it definitely could have been better. The service was a little slow albeit there were only a handful of tables that were full. I am sure there are better restaurants in the area.

Oh Gangadin, you are the only Indian place I have tried in North Hollywood, and now I will never stray. You are just too good. The owner of this place is amazing. I usually come in for take-out, and he always comes over to chat while I wait. He also almost always gives me some sort of talk about the healthy power of his foods, and hands me one of his print-outs about the awesomeness of turmeric. Maybe some people would not like this; I LOVE IT. Seriously, he is adorable. Last time he even rustled fresh strawberries up from somewhere & sent me home with a basket, after making me go look at his wedding picture on the wall. It's like visiting your grandpa, if your grandpa was an awesome old Indian guy, stealthily nursing a vodka cocktail. If the ambiance doesn't do it for you, the food definitely will. It is soooo good. From the garlic naan to the rice pudding to the curries to the saag paneer, it is all really, really good. I'll admit it's a little on the pricey side for take-out, but the portions are really big so it ends up being a couple of meals. And, if you're cheap like me, the to-go containers are really sturdy and can be re-used a lot as tupperware. Dining in is really nice too, though, as it's never too crowded and there is nice subdued lighting. Definitely recommend checking Gangadin out.

Four stars simply for the host alone!!! An authentic Punjabi restaurant owned by a cultured Punjabi guy from India, via Iran and the UK which I thought was quite impressive in itself. His son greeted us and we explained that we want to have some take away in true PUNJABI style and he said, "not a problem." THANK YOU, someone who gets it and understands the need for authentic grub!!! We ordered lamb, chicken, samosas and kebabs, we took the food home and all the family enjoyed the food, all had the requisite amount of kick and spice to it as ordered. Overall, the good was good but not out of this world. We live in SF and went to LA for a long weekend and were pleasantly surprised by this quite unassuming joint in Studio City, with a subtle yet sophisticated ambience inside was a welcome surprise. The final touch was the owner of the restaurant, who is also a part-time comedian, his jokes were enough to give me a stomach ache given his general hilarious tone, although I was not sure whether to laugh or not as much of the jokes were at his son's expense. He too saw the funny side to it all for a fun night and good food. It goes to show that in the service industry, you need to make the customer feel good and enjoy the experience of interacting with you. A simple skill yet mastered by few.

Love this place. There are now a lot of Indian restaurants near our Ventura Blvd. neighborhood but none match Gangadin for family feel and authentic quality food. Makes a difference when the owner makes you feel welcome.

Their was a time that Gangadin had good food but that appears to be a thing of the past. How do you screw up Raita? Well they did! On top of that the Chicken Korma had very little flavor and the Bhartha was not good. To top it all of our waiter had a really bad attitude. I usually eat at Taste of India in Sherman Oaks and have never had a bad meal there.

I love this place. Gangadin's Restaurant has the best Indian food I've tasted in the valley! While nice to know its been family owned for 25 years, the owners are very friendly and accommodating... And if you don't eat meat or animal by products, they cater to you with an entire section of VEGAN menu items! Friendly environment, delicious and HEALTHY vegan Indian food, what more could I ask for. Thank goodness for Gangadin Restaurant!! :-)

I would have never come across this place but for our wedding florist being in a neighboring city. We like Indian food and Yelp led us here one night after a floral consultation. The food is good, and not very greasy. We asked the owner what he recommended. Vegetable korma (made with fresh vegetables from the local farmer's market) and the fish tandoori. Yum. Warning, the tandoori comes out on a hot plate, so prepare to smell even more than you do after your average Indian restaurant visit. Oh yeah, spicy means spicy. Buyer beware.

One night I was craving something different for dinner and decided on Indian food. I enlisted yelp for some suggestions and picked Gangadin. Me and my bf were not sorry, dinner was delicious. Upon suggestion, I had the chicken tikka marsala and my bf had the lamb vindaloo, both were very good. Also, the prices are reasonable.

Great food, not oily at all, and wonderful customer service. The owner and his son are genuinely wonderful people who care about the food they serve. Best Indian I've found in the Valley. Their Farmers Market stand is a perfect lunch too.

I work right around the corner from this place and I'm sooooo happy to have found it! Amazing Tikka Masala, samosas, and garlic naan. This will become a frequent dinner spot for me... I can't wait to try some of their other dishes. Delivery was fast, the food was still warm, and everything was packaged well (no leaking!). Even better...I had plenty of leftovers for the next day! New fav Indian spot in the Valley!!

Decent. Nothing compared to the Indian food I've had in England and Ireland, but then again, I haven't found a place in the states that compares. The service is horrible, but I feel that's par with the course in Indian restaurants (not sure why, but seems they're all consistent in that respect).

First time in because of the good reviews they have on opentable.com . Our waiter was very nice, found out his father owns the place. I love family owned/run restaurants because they actually (usually) care about your experience. Would be nice if the meals came with rice because for $13 for Chicken Korma, it should come with free rice. It was good and they did Cheesy Naan for me even though it's not on menu.

I have always enjoyed the food here, but something happened this week at lunch that makes me wonder if I will be back. I had the occasion to wait briefly for the rest room. While waiting, I was taken aback when I didn't hear the water run for washing hands, and a kitchen staff person came out of the bathroom. Eeeeek!

This place seriously gets *****5 stars*****. It is sooo damn good, sooo clean and sooo delicious...My friend and I went here last week for the 1st time because we wanted to try a new indian place and read the reviews on it. This is the first time I have been to an indian restaurant and it was super packed practically every table was taken..The owner was super nice and he treated us sooo well. The food I have to say was amazing..especially the chicken tikka masala and the naan..we ordered garlic naan..their garlic naan was totally different from other indian restaurants..it was very light and tasty..the owner also recommended we try the onion naan..woww that sucker was hugeeee..once again that was delicious as well..went great with the chicken tikka masala. Oh and for 2 people the bill was less than $25.00 not bad all..We told the owner that it was our first time and he was sooo sweet he gave us this really good ice cream to try..I definitely am coming back and bringing my friends and family to this spot..Very great food, great service..what else can you ask for??? Oh the only bad part-parking..parking sucks..damn parking meters..it was 730pm and the meter maid dude was still checking..ughhh..free parking after 8pm.

Great service and great food... It turns out that I have known this family for some time. I used to tutor the boys when they were small. Now one is in college and the other is about to graduate, but dedicates a lot of time to helping in the restaurant. Lovely people, lovely food!

This was the first time I had eaten in and Indian restaurant for more than 4 years. So my take on Indian cuisine might not be very accurate. So, I came to Gangadin because of a friend's recommendation. When I got there I was immediately greeted and seated by the mother. Ordering was super quick and relaxed. They even made suggestions to make sure the meal was complete. The food was good and didn't make me sweat. Good experience for sure.

Because I'm always stuck looking for gluten free places, this restaurant makes me happy. Gluten free and vegan and the servers really know the menu and what goes into the dishes. They pride themselves on fresh ingredients and dishes made from scratch. A little more expensive than other Indian restaurants, but worth it to me.

Top Kid says, "I like Indian food." We're floored. Son-of-the-fiance is 9 years old and is a very picky eater. Only Dad's chicken (no bones), Dad's pasta, fish sticks or In 'n Out double double with meat, bun and that's it will do. But he swears he's had Tandoori Chicken and loves it - at another restaurant. After we convinced him to try a different restaurant closer to home, we were off. We walk in and the ambiance is romantic, but not too much for a kid. It has high ceilings and a nice paint job - pleasant and nicely (dimly) lit. Top Kid swears he likes some "dark brown beans" so we ordered lentils (daal), tandoori chicken, naan, basmati rice and lamb korma for us, all mild (plus a Kingfisher for me :). Service was a tad slow, but very friendly. The result: kid MOWED through the food. Bones in chicken? He cut around them. I must admit I usually avoid tandoori chicken as it's dry, but this wasn't. Yum. He unsurprisingly inhaled the rice (working around the peas). And he practically licked the plate of daal, which shocked us. Granted, it was really delish. I asked fiance if we should propose that kid try korma, but he figured we'd be pushing our luck on a perfect evening. We loved the food too. Kid says "Five stars on Yelp!" but Dad's chicken gets "Six stars!" Dad and his fiancee are very happy. We'll be back, with or without Kid.

I didn't like Indian food all that much until eating at Gangadin. The green chili lamb curry is so amazingly good. The owner said it's his wife's recipe. I don't like curry, chili or lamb much, but this combo is excellent! The Saag Paneer and the garlic naan are also great. I drive from Santa Monica to Studio City when I jones for that curry.

i just had to write a review for this place because it is effing incredible.... i had never had indian food before going here and now i am a huge fan--but my best friend told me that now i've been spoiled cuz i started at the top with Gangadin... 2 MUSTS: Garlic Naan, and Lamb Korma... and dipping the naan in the korma sauce- i could get only this and be completely satisfied... *mouth is watering* snap out of it- ok- the tikka and the vindaloo are also really good, but its all about the korma mayne forreeeeal.... i drive my ass all the way from downtown to studio city for this place so that says a lot. its the business.....

BEST INDIAN FOOD I have ever eaten (although I have yet to visit India). Indian is my favorite cuisine and I eat it as often as possible. I have probably tried a dozen restaurants in the greater Los Angeles area and this by far wins hands down. The tikka masala sauce just hit on a all cylinders. It's a smaller, more intimate restaurant with not quite an overwhelming ethnic feel. Some reviews found the atmosphere cold - I didn't, but it could have been a tiny tad warmer. I went for the food however, my surroundings were secondary. I live an hour away but will return as frequently as possible!!

Best indian in town. Most places only have a couple dishes they do well. This place does it all well! Stand outs are the Keema Aloo and the Keema Naan. It was also the first time I actually enjoyed Chicken Tandoori as it was cooked to perfection and not dried out like most other places. We have this delivered at least once a month and the service is top notch. I forgot to order rice once and they were nice enough to throw it in for me and added homemade pickled veggies on top for free! I really cannot say enough about this place.

Awesome! Awesome awesome awesome. I seriously love this place. My bf and I are serious Indian food freaks - the hotter the better - and this place brings it. I'm vegan, and this place is more than helpful with that. They actually have a SEPARATE VEGAN MENU! DAMN! The tofu pakoras are my new bff. The owner makes a point to say hello to you and make sure you are enjoying your meal, and has even been known to stop by with a complimentary dish to try. Once when our check was taking a bit long to arrive, he brought us a free dessert. The place is rather small and the tables fill up fast with all your delicious food, but really, the service and food here make up for anything it lacks in ambiance. They're very gracious, and you really get the sense that they want to keep you satisfied. Everything tastes fresh and delicious. It's perfect for grabbing a table and relaxing while you enjoy amazingly spiced, deliciously greasy Indian food. They deliver, too, for those bed-bound from one too many trips to places like this. This has quickly become my favorite Indian spot.

DELICIOUS!!!! They are not the cheapest Indian fare you'll find in the valley, but by far one of the best. The owner and his wife take pride in their business. They love feeding people and making them feel at home in their restaurant. The ambiance is comfortable and relaxing, and the staff are courteous and attentive.

What a nice little surprise. We can here to celebrate my friend's big 40th birthday. None of us had any expectation for this place, and it was a great birthday dinner. " Gangadin is s small neighborhood restaurant that is run by mostly family members. This place is like "Cheers," where everyone knows your name. The food is definitely top notch. I had some of the best Indian dishes here. FYI, the owner is craaaaaaaazy. He's crazy funny. Definitely worth to keep coming back to Gangadin.

Very disappointing. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I normally order from Great India Cafe but, thought I would give this place a shot. I should have known I was in trouble the minute I got them on the phone. I said I'd like an order for delivery, the man sounded like I was putting him out. He was cold and unfriendly. I place my order anyway. The food arrived in the time specified however, it was barely edible. The Shahi Paneer was incredibly bland and it had peanuts. I don't ever remember this dish having peanuts. They completely overwhelmed the dish. All I could taste were the peanuts and a flavorless watery sauce. And the paneer were hard, like it hadn't been cooked long enough. The Chicken Korma was also incredibly bland but over the top salty. After a few bites, I felt like I had swallowed sea water. My throat hurt from the amount of salt in the dish. Also, the portions were much, much smaller than I expected. Especially for the money. I will never order from here again. As some of the other reviewers have mentioned, there are plenty of other places in the area who do really good Indian food.

  • Matt E.

How have i not reviewed this place?! After discovering this long time establishment just a few years ago while sampling a sample at the Studio City Farmer's Market, I switched from sampling to down right gluttony. Fresh ingredients really stand out and the spice factor can be dialed in just right. Malai Kofta (sp?) is addicting. Like all great Indian eateries, vegetarian options are all over the place, but what makes this place so much more unique is the separate Vegan menu they offer. Overall, the atmosphere is quaint, the location is super easy, the family ownership and operation makes for an entertaining visit. And of course - the food is crazy awesome!!!

This is the very first Indian restaurant I went to about 8 years ago. I've been to Gangadin a few times when I lived in the valley. Their Saag Paneer is fantastic and seasoned to perfection. I also LOVED their Chicken Tikka, onion Pakoras and their Basmati rice. And of course, an Indian feast wouldnt be complete without the Naan! Yummm! I have been wanting to go back, but havent made it yet.

  • Amanda B.

I was really excited to try this restaurant because I saw a review on Quarrygirl.com about the separate vegan menu this place offers. I must say that I was sadly disappointed with every menu item we tried. The okra in the okra curry dish was obviously frozen and not fresh as it was soggy and chewy, and had no crunch. The spinach paranatha bread was so-so, but was a little dry. We also tried the mixed vegetable curry and I think the veggies in that were at least fresh, not frozen, but the curry sauce was lacking depth and creaminess - it was grainy and watery. The only thing we tried that we liked was the onion pakora appetizer and the trio of chutneys that it was served with. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants, and this one has to be the worst - even if they do have a vegan menu and the rest do not. I'd rather just make Indian food from scratch at home instead of go here!

  • LDB C.

Not impressed with this place, - we went last night and everything seemed very mediocre. First, the portions are pretty small. We had onion Pakoras, and they tasted pretty dry to me. The Fish Curry was nothing special and the Chicken Tandoori was also weak. There was about 5 small pieces of chicken with a few onions and peppers. We also had Okra, which you could tell was canned because all of the pieces were the exact same size and shape, and not made fresh. It was just heated and mixed with a premade sauce. The yogurt served with the Naan bread was somewhat watery and there was really nothing that stood out in the whole meal, and it was not even a good value. I will not be back. Oh, and we all noticed that the ladies serving were rude. At one point my wife joked that she was scared to ask for some more ice water. I have had much better than this.

Been going to Gangadin over 20 years now. the food is wonderful, the whole family works there and the owner visits all the tables. The tikka with grilled onions and a naan are heavenly as is the bharta (eggplant) the chicken saag will knock you out and the spices in the picture are amazing.

This place is fantastic. I have a sensitive stomach limiting my diet to non-spicy dishes. At first, I was worried about the spice issue, but the kitchen was very helpful to my problem! They were ready to handle any allergies or other issues with great care. The food was EXCELLENT. Seriously the best Indian food I've possibly ever had. It really changed my perception of Indian food, and I will definitely be eating there more often. Plus, they let us watch the chefs cook Garlic Naan! Awesome!

  • Rain K.

The portions are nicely sized but far from "American". If you are going to get an appetizer, order carefully because it's a lot of food and we ended up taking half home. Aside from being urged to order WAY more food than we needed, the service is friendly, authentic, and the food was good. :)

This is our favorite Indian restaurant in Los Angeles. The owner and his family are just the loveliest people and take so much pride and pleasure serving you. You will not get better service anywhere. We've been going here for more than 20 years and the food and service is always superb. We also order for delivery and they are great about that. Always making sure that you have all the condiments and sauces/extras you want. We love these guys. As expert diner outers we give Gangadin our highest recommendation. The CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA and LAMB VINDALOO is our favorite - to die for. The girls of course love the NAAN.

Very tasty food. If you finish everything on your plate SOMEBODY will kid you by saying "Oh you hated it!" On one trip, TWO people said it to me. I kidded them back and demanded that I not be charged for my meal. Oh, to laugh at things. Good stuff. Try 'em.

Really great food. Don't know much about Indian food, but this was delicious. The owner is funny. He walks around in the dark restaurant like a ghost. And then he has his own picture in the menu. Lol I think he wants to be a star.

  • Mike N.

Love the food here. The lamb korma is simply heavenly. I always leave this place extremely satisfied with the food. The only reasons I'm not giving it five stars: service can be slow at times, and sodas come from a can. Otherwise, fabulous!

Whoola magolly!!! I love this place!!! Mameet the owner really made our night by taking care of us and giving us the "Gangadinner goodness" we had hoped for. The tikka masala sauce was Insane in the Indian membrane and the Garlic Naan was Insane in the Indian brain. In terms of Indian flavors, this place is hands down the best for taste, quality and uniqueness. The interior was ok, but it was more the history of Gangadin and flavors that had me wanting to don a red bandana and join this "Gang"gadin... agin... and agin. - Keep eating, America and keep eating America. The place is slipping. Overpriced. $14 for chicken masala with about six little dice of chicken. Rice not included. Bharta same. Food is good but not exceptional for that price. Service is almost non existent. We won't go back.

After reading some of the rave reviews on Yelp, I just had to drag a couple of work friends to try this place out. If you're lucky, you can find street parking in front. I'm not sure if there's a small lot off the back alley. We were one of two tables occupied in the restaurant during lunch. The waitress was attentive. She offered us menus, but failed to mention about the lunch special. (I saw the small street sign about the lunch special as we were leaving.) There wasn't much decor to speak of. The walls were mostly bare white. The tables were covered with white linen with a pane of glass on top of them. The order of naan was good, but nothing extraordinary. I ordered the chicken tikka masala ($13). Most Indian restaurants have rather small entree dishes, but Gangadin's was even smaller. The entree came with about 1 cup of plain white rice (not even saffroned), 1/2 cup of daal, 1/2 cup of raita, and a small container of salad which was more like dead weeds to me (not even sure if there was any dressing on it). The masala was alright, a bit too sweet for my taste and did not have enough spice taste. I had ordered "hot" spicy, but it tasted more like mild to me. I tried their saffron ice cream for dessert because I've never heard of that before. It's mildly flavored with saffron with chopped up pistachio in it. It's interesting in a good way. Overall, the meal was OK. Taste of India (Woodland Hills) remains the best Indian I've had in LA so far.

I enjoyed a very nice dinner here with my family. Food and hospitality was exceptional. I ate a wide range of appetizer's and entree's. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be going back. Zero complaints

really awesome food and service. DELICIOUS VEGAN FOOD! we got saag tofu (soooo good), vegetable biryani, parantha and tofu pakoras it was all really good. A nice change for vegans from the MANY thai vegan restaurants in the valley.

So delicious and friendly. I've been here twice - once for takeout and once for dine in and loved it both times. The staff is so nice and attentive even if you're just waiting to pick up your order. So vegetarian/vegan friendly - they even have a separate vegetarian menu! The garlic naan is delicious!

Yummiyumm! My favourite place to eat Indian. Cozy and intimate atmosphere in a modern setting. Just perfect in every way.

Gangadin is really good Indian food. I have only gotten delivery, but that being said I have never been disappointed The freshness level of the food is defiantly very high, as is the flavor. What I really like about gangadin is they are not afraid to bring the HEAT.. When you say hot they will make it hot, unlike many places which is a personal pet peeve.

I can eat my dinner in another Indian place in Studio City, but nothing, I said nothing can take away these blues. Nothing Compare 2 U, Gangadin! Lamb vindaloo spicy enough to make your scalp sweat and so flavorful that you just can't stop... Saag paneer to douce the flames... Great samosas... You can't miss here. The owners are fantastic - very friendly and funny - and the place is clean and fancy enough for dates. That is, if you want your date to see you sweat from your scalp.

I really love Indian food. As long as it is mild and not too spicy I'll try it. Friends brought us to Gangadin Restaurant for a family celebration. Our meal and dinning experience was very pleasant. Indian food comes with special bread that is called Nan. We ate most of the dishes with Nan and had a fun time eating with our fingers. We ordered Chicken Tika--it was my favorite dish here! The curries we ordered were too spicy for me and I had to add a lot of yogurt to the dish to calm down the spicy flavor. Our service was prompt and everything about our meal made the evening a memorable experience. I have already gone back for take out by ordering from the on line menu. It was an easy experience to order on line as well.

Best Indian food I have had in the US. Run by a father and son team that are charming hosts. You wont do better in LA, thats for sure. Make sure to try the Chicken Korma, I had dreams about it last night!

Finally tried this restaurant after years of driving past. At the local Farmers Market on Sunday they have samples and I really liked what I tasted. For starters the restaurant is small but, very comfortable. Clean white table cloths and the people who work there (including the owner) are very accomodating with their service. We ordered the Reshmi Chicken which is a white meat Tandoori chicken for $12.00. When it arrived I was disappointed to see 5 small chicken tenders on the plate with onions and peppers. Almost looked like Indian fajitas. They were very good but, $12.00 for 5 chicken tenders? We also ordered the Channa Masala with chickpeas. It was delicious and a decent portion if you have 3 or 4 items. The vegetable Biryani (rice) was very tasty. I love the sauces they put on the table too. One is green with a mint and slight heat. The other sauce was red with more heat but a fantastic flavor. I'm not sure on the 3rd sauce because I couldn't get past the red one. Our garlic naan was perfectly seasoned and very soft and delicious. I'd give this five stars but, based on my first experience I'm going to wait until the next time.....and I will go again. I'll probably stick to a vegetarian menu since the prices are high and portions are small. However the vegetarian possibilites here are very inviting. The onion Pakoras was very tasty too! The menu is big but, not overwhelming.

The food was pretty americanized, although i did ask for "not spicey at all!" The owner was also pretty friendly but kept talking to us throughout our meal and name dropping and bragging throughout our meal when all my husband and I wanted to do was to enjoy a QUIET dinner.

I'm not sure what the fuss is all about? I mean, it was alright... but nothing special for the high prices. I purchased a Living Social deal a few months back for this place since most people who reviewed it said the food was excellent. We ended up ordering the green chili lamb and lamb seekh kebab, vegetable biryani rice and garlic naan bread which turned out to be just enough food for the two of us.... (don't judge me, I'm pregnant!) So anyway, the bread was okay but not really garlic-y enough for my taste... the rice was not very good... and both the green chili lamb and seekh kebab were extremely tough. I know lamb usually is a bit tougher since its so lean, but if you are cooking it in juices it should be a lot more tender than it came out. The lamb dishes tasted good, but we asked for a medium spicy and I couldn't taste any spice to it whatsoever. Since we're white folk, she probably thought we couldn't handle the medium, but when I ask for spicy I'd appreciate you giving me spicy! So yeah, I don't think I'd be so critical had the prices been more reasonable... but with our $30 certificate we still ended up paying $25 extra on top of that. I'm all for shelling out cash on some delicious food, but this place just didn't hit the mark in terms of taste. I probably wont be back, unless someone else is paying ;)

This restaurant has ruined me for Indian food because it's so delicious. I used to live by the place and ordered it on a frequent basis, but now I live far away in Hollywood (booo) and therefore can't always make it out to Studio City to satisfy the craving as often. Straight up delicious Indian food. The garlic naan is so good. The mulligatawny soup was light and yummy. The lamb vindaloo and vegetarian curry are favorites. The owner is super friendly and will not hesitate to pounce on you as you eat and procede to educate you on all the ways Indian food and curry are good for you, and how long they have been in business in LA. Very nice gentleman. My favorite Indian food in LA.

Gotta love an Indian restaurant with an Argentinean waitress. It's the only time I get to practice my spanish. When my folks came out from NY, this is where I took them out to eat and they really enjoyed it. the chicken tikka is always moist and flavorful and I LIVE for their peshwari naan! The owner and his son are usually there and are very friendly. SPICE: I always ask for mild and it still has a little bite to it. MY FAVES: Saag paneer, chicken tika, vegetable byrani, kulfi, peshwari naan, garlic naan, o.k., NAAN!

This place is amazing, and the service is some of the nicest I've ever had at an Indian restaurant. Serving sizes are decent, and they have a great selection of breads and rices to go with the meal. I love super spicy food, but they will make food to any taste. My favorite thing about this place is that all the food is very fresh and hot. I don't think any thing is premade, this means it takes a little bit longer to get dishes out than most indian restaurants, but it's worth the wait, for a freshly baked to order piece of naan.

Highly recommend this place! This is one of our regular dinner spots because we can't stay away for too long-- we love the food. The food is excellent! We especially love the garlic naan, saag paneer and chicken makhani. (If you prefer white meat only, request it, otherwise it could be a mix of white/dark). The garlic naan is just perfect. The India Special beer goes great with the spiciness of the food too. Unless you like fire, order everything medium. Medium provides just enough heat without a burn. Friendly owner is always there. We look forward to seeing him as well.

Ok, I'm a little shocked that this place doesn't have more reviews. I think Gangadin is my favorite place for Indian food. My girlfriend and I have been here at least 5 times, and it's always been consistent. Oh man, if you like spicy food, do NOT order it extra hot.....you'll be dying from your own sweat and tears. Just say spicy. My chicken vindaloo was perfect, chicken was so tender and the sauce was delicious. My girlfriend always gets the chicken tikka masala, and the first time we came here, I ate almost half her masala cuz it was so damn good! The garlic naan is awesome too. As for the ambiance....well, from my experience, Indian restaurants are pretty consistent in their look and feel. It's on the quiet side, with soft music in the background, and they're never crowded. I'd discourage groups of people from going, especially if you're planning to drink and unwind, maybe 4 at the most. Just go with a friend and order the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan and whatever else you usually get, then come back on yelp and thank me. =)

The best Indian food around! The family based staff is always friendly & attentive. I haven't eaten anything here that I didn't like! The garlic naan is soft, fresh, & garlicky...their tamarind chutney for the pakoras is to die for! Chicken marsala is delicious. I recommend this place to all my friends & students. On Sunday's they set up at the farmers market & I'd say its the best real food on the street!

Had a wonderful overall experience in this "little gem" of a restaurant. We had poppadums and garlic naan followed by chicken tikka, lamb vindaloo and veg. biryani. Everything was cooked to perfection and you could taste the different spices in the dishes. I like to think of myself as a bit of an expert when it comes to Indian food and this is as good as it gets. The owner ,Manmeet, is not only warm and charming but entertaining as well. Will def.return when I'm visiting Studio City!

good food. Ok price. if it's indian i'd rather go to Lal Mirch where they don't charge you for every little thing. usually dinners come with rice. there might have even been a PEA surcharge in the rice. CMON include it in the cost. You and i both know it does not cost $7.00 for a small bowl of rice. more like 5 CENTS!!!

I have a beef with Indan restaurants. Not a literal beef, because Hindus don't eat cow. Nay, a figurative beef, a bone to pick, so to speak. You see, I'm not sure what it is with most Indian restaurants these days, but it seems that the entrees always come in very small dishes, and include a small amount of food. The tandoori chicken often uses small chickens, and in chicken currys dishes, one's liable to get 8 little chunks of white meat swimming in the delicious curry. Which might be acceptable is the food costs $2.99. But it always seems to be hovering arund the $10 mark, which is weird, but when you eat at an Indian grocery, it's like twice as much food for half the price. I don't get it. This place falls into the former category, but unlike its many Ventura Blvd. competitors, its food is consistenty yum. So nonetheless, Ganagdin has good food. I've been here 3 or 4 times now, and it's always consistently tasty. Plus they have delivery, so if you feel you can't handle another night in of lo mein or spaghetti and meatballs, you can get your biryani on here.

I love the Gangadin! I think it's great that it's family owned and the owners stroll around the restaurant, talking to customers and sometimes give them free food! We got free Naan our first time there! There's plenty of parking out front at the meters and we've never been there when it's super-crowded, so food usually comes out really fast. I'm a huge fan of their vegetarian dish, Shahi Paneer! It's always consistently good. If you're looking for delicious Indian food in the SFV, this is it!

Solid meal and great environment. My girlfriend and I walked to Gangadin to earn a nice big meal, and nice big meal we earned. I'm not a beer drinker, but the Taj Majal went great with everything. The owner comped us both appetizers and dessert - I think because they were a little weeded out. I'm pretty tolerant of waiting for good food so it was a bonus. I love other food more than I love Indian food, but this place is tops for me.

I ate here on November 5th. I read the reviews which were in general very good...and was recommended by a friend. What is called service is non existent. The food is mediocre at best. We ordered the highly recommended chicken korma which was bland ,soupy and a non event. We also orderd lentils, saag, vegetable curry, naan and rice. I must say that I've had better food at Burger king. The people who reviewed this place are either relatives, close friend or morons. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. For all of you who want to go to a REALLY great place go to Anarbagh...a truly great Indian restaurant.

I've eaten at dozens of Indian restaurants in the Valley. This one ranks as one of the top places. It's family owned, very sweet people. For the people complaining about price, you clearly don't eat a lot of Indian. Every decent Indian restaurant will run you $15-20 per person for dinner. The food here was delicious, and I'm a very picky eater. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and the owner took the time to cover over and ask about the baby and even to write out a little blessing for her. It was very sweet. Service was good, food was excellent, owners were wonderful. There's no reason I wouldn't go back. I'm a regular at another Indian restaurant in town, but I guess I'll just have to rotate between the two now. Give em a try!

Family run place with some of the best food in town - Indian or otherwise (I've tried a few things, but always go back to the Saag, wife gets chicken tikka masala). Staff is friendly, we had a miscommunication on a take out order and they got us what we needed it with no problems. Also, they have an online ordering system that is easy to use and very convenient.

This place was incredible! THE BEST Indian food i have ever had. I went with my personal trainer/ friend who is a big foodie like me. We both Loved the service, hospitality , and the food. They typically have a booth at the Sunday farmers market right in front of the restaurant and that is how i discovered the ONION PAKORAS...Mmmmm mmm! the vegetable curry was amazing, shrimp masala. to think I used to love Anarkali... used to.. this place is like discovering Indian food the right way.. i mean i ate mango chutney people ...

Found out about this place during the Studio City's farmers' market. Just ate there again today: delicious! I was not crazy about the bhindi masala, but the palak chana and dal made up for it. The pickle took everything over the top - I would go back to purchase that in quantity, if available. Let me know if you are heading over there; would very much like to return soon and find out what you think.

It's HOT! When you order hot, these people mean hot. Memorably hot... Their food is pretty tasty, but i was disappointed by the tandoori wings. They came out all shrunk, maybe the size of 2 pieces of of gum, and didn't have much flavor. The curry was pretty good, I had Lamb Rogan Josh - Medium spicy . Washed it down with a nice Kingfisher. The spice level was high and the food itself was pretty ok. My roommate ordered Chicken Korma - Hot. HAHA, that stuff was stupid spicy. It was almost blinding. Slightly better than par for the course. I've been here a couple times now.

Great Food! INCREDIBLE service! Love the owner and his family who have been running this place for over 25 years! Recommend: The lamb, the chicken tikka masalla and the chicken with the green chilli house sauce. AMAZING! Portions could be a little bigger, but other than that, INCREDIBLE!

This is my favorite Indian place in the area. The food is excellent. The quality is so good that it makes up for the two things that aren't so good: high prices and slow service. But heck, sometimes it's good to slow down and watch the raita dry. Don't miss: PESHA WARI NAAN -King of Naans -Naan garnished with dried fruit and nuts-mildly spiced baked in the Tandoor LAMB SAAG -Pieces of Iamb meat marinated in spices and cooked with spinach and ginger. CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA -Pieces of tender boneless chicken bar-b-qued in the Tandoor and cooked in a delicately seasoned sauce. KASHMIRI PULLAV -Basmati rice cooked with dried fruits, and nuts.

The food is great, the staff is very friendly. The owner will make you feel like family here. I would say that nobody would be disappointed with the overall experience here. Furthermore, I've never had better Indian food in my life. The only complaint I have is the price, its generally about 25% more expensive than you'd expect to pay. This isn't too big a deal considering how good the food is, but if you are looking to eat lunch for under $10 this isn't the place. So i dock them 1 star because its a little pricey. Expect a bill of $40 +/- for 2 people not drinking booze. Still cheaper than sushi, but at least you expect it when you go out for sushi.

this is my favorite indian restaurant in the studio city/sherman oaks area. there are lots of restaurants that just cannot get a simple chicken tikka masala right, believe me i think we tried almost all of the indian places before finding this one. well look no further. this place has great flavor, reasonable pricing (about $10-$12 per dish), yummy garlic naan, and one of the best saag i've ever had. the owner is friendly and will come over to say hi especially after you've been there a few times. there is meter parking out front which is usually not a problem on any weeknight.

havent been in awhile but i remember the fish tank , lol we always stuck with pretty much the same things all the time ...saag aloo , lamb vindaloo, tandori chicken , raita, samosas , garlic naan the service was ok but for the prices the portions were on the slim side .. it looked like a half order yet at the full price. ok im just saying if you really like lamb vindaloo .. get an order for yourself . I need to hit it again sometime ... Its been way to long . when you get an indian food craving ..just act on it .. dont go substituting ...

We felt like having Indian food for dinner and wanted something close to home, so we decided to try Gangadin and were plesantly surprised. It has a great decor, contemporary with intimate lighting. I could see someone going on a first date here. We started with the Vegetable Samosas, which I love at another place. These were decent, but not the best. It was more potato than peas and curry. My other Indian restaurant has a good combination of potato, green peas and curry. Very flavorful. Here it was like eating a potato ball with little flavor. We also ordered Lamb Tikka, but the owner said not to as he thought they were a little dry that night so he suggested the lamb chops which were very good. It came as four chops on a sizzling plate with bell pepper and onions. Good suugestion. We also ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and asked for it medium hot. It actually came mild with little heat. The sauce was a rich reddish sauce as in the picture here on yelp. It was very flavorful and we enjoyed it. We also got the Vegetable Biryani, which was ok, again I've had better, actually I've made my own at home and it was better, BUT it was still good. The Garlic Naan was great, I could have eaten that all night. It was a good place. The five items we ordered came out to $56, which included the tip. Not bad at all. We will go back and I do recommend Gangadin. P.S. the Chutney's were good also.

We went there about a week ago with a couple of friends who absolutely raved about the food. From the outside it looks pretty unassuming, but the food is really outstanding. As others have mentioned, the chicken tikka masala is a show stopper. We ordered ours spiced medium and it was the right amount of heat for the dish (our friends warned us that hot really means hot). We also tried the lamb vindaloo and rogan josh. Of the two the Vindaloo was better, but that isn't to say the rogan josh was bad. The owner was really friendly and even suggested a delicious dessert; a mix of the saffron ice cream with a dollop of the Kulfi ice cream (pistachio flavored). We highly recommend it, especially for a dinner out with a couple of friends.

Gangadin came highly recommended to us by a handful of friends. After giving them a try, we loved them so much that we had them cater our wedding. The food was FRESH and the naan bread was made on site at the reception. Our guests LOVED it. We eat at the restaurant whenever we get a hankerin' for Indian food. We have always had good to great service at the restaurant and we walk out delightfully full every time. I have a palate that prefers milder levels of spice but my husband is a daredevil with his taste buds. If you are too, you should specifically ask them to max out the spice levels or you might not get the blast of heat you wish for. Parking...never a problem. Although it is metered street parking, we have never had trouble finding a place to park. Read the parking signs. You have to pay up till 8:00 p.m. Give them a try for yourselves. I hope you like them as much as we do!

The category list on Yelp includes "Pakistani" but this place offers mostly standard North Indian fare. Rasam - a grave insult to Rasam; don't order this. It was slightly spiced tomato soup and it tasted like it came out of a can... Mulligatawny - again, very disappointing; a mediocre lentil soup; not at all a Mulligatawny. They seem to be mislabeling all their soups! Samosa - odd shaped Samosa. In fact, it didn't have a "shape" as such; it was just an odd shaped blob. It wasn't bad; it could use some more spices and more peas; it was mostly just potato. Tandoori Chpati - another case of mislabeling. This was not a Chapati; more like a Naan. Maybe it's excusable because they prefixed it with "Tandoori" and Naan is made in a Tandoor, but it doesn't sit right with me. Practically every Indian place in the country does this though; they just take the same approach to it as Naan but leave out the Yeast resulting in a much too thick and doughy pita like thing. Proper Chapati should be made with Atta flour (Wheat), should be very thin, almost soft like a soft Taco, and looks nothing like Naan. It is very hard to find the real thing. The only place I can think of is India Sweets & Spices on Sherman Way & Topanga but their food got hyper salty some years back and we had to stop going for fear of passing out in the parking lot. Kashmiri Pullav - the best thing we had here. Basmati rice with Almonds, Raisins, and, this is a new one, dried Papaya. Excellent! Saag Paneer - the Spinach was well cooked but the Paneer was too hard. They offered to make it spicy... spicy Saag Paneer! Never heard of that before; we opted to have it standard. Vegitable Korma - got it spicy; this was good. Rice Pudding - Carrot colored! but with sprinkled Pistachios; very good. Kulfi; has always had a little edge that takes getting used to; good Kulfi but nothing out of the ordinary. . Decent food overall but nothing special. Good service. They were friendly. Specially the Russian looking lady that was responsible for the dried Papaya in the Pullauv. A Russian Indian chef!

Excellent food!! Excellent service!! Today was my second visit to Gangadin: lunch was delicious! My friend introduced me to this restaurant, and even though, I'm new to the Indian food scene, I know that I've hit the jackpot with Gangadin!

This was my second time visiting this restaurant and both times it has been the best Indian food I've had in LA. Everything tastes so fresh and homecooked. It's a family run business, and they run it well. Great service, friendly and helpful staff (Sangmeet and Susanna helped us tonight) and nothing greasy or heavy. It's a bit pricier than some other Indian restaurants in the neighborhood, but the extra $3 per person is worth the quiet, clean ambiance and the fresh food! The portions aren't huge, but my husband and I split garlic naan, tikka masala, and rice and were FULL. It was just enough for both of us (and he can EAT). The last time I went, things were a little too spicy for my friend who ordered mild, and this time it was too mild for me who ordered medium spice, but other than that, we were completely satisfied and ready to make Gangadin a regular stop. I'm looking forward to bringing the rest of my family!

Good food and good people. The tandoori chicken was particularly good as was the chicken tikka masala. The owner came to our table and talked to us for a while. They said they were coming out with an iPhone app soon. It will be interesting to see what a small restaurant app can do.

The food and atmosphere are great- and I had a really great experience with the owner! He came up and talked to our table and was very charming and funny. It really made the experience even better. Food was great- loved the veggie samosas.

Ok, so this review is long overdue. My friend and his gf took my gf and I to this quaint little restaurant in Studio City. Let me begin, by saying that I've only tried Indian food once in my life. And that was in Koh Samui, Thailand. Anyways, I figured I'd go because the gf likes Indian food. So we had an assortment of dishes that included spicy curry, chicken marsala and a couple of appetizers. Everything was all so delicious, but the best part of the night was when the owner came to our table and began telling us the benefits of eating Indian food for our health. Not only that, he gave us a free dessert which I don't recall what it was called but it was some kind of mango rice pudding. And to top all that, the owner invited all of us to the kitchen and showed us how naan was baked and even allowed us to take the naan home with us. I will most definitely come back here in the near future.

Great service, great food, we even got a fun poster about the health benefits of curry. :) They were great about pointing out the GF options, of which there are many. We had the curried paneer appetizer (fried in a chickpea batter) which was really yummy, and the chicken tikka masala plus a veggie curry over rice. Would definitely go back any time.

Four stars for food, one star for service. I have eaten here many times before and usually the owner is very kind and welcoming. This last time I went the service was terrible. All I wanted was some lamb tika masala. I was told by the waitress, that some people don't like that so I couldn't have it. I tried to explain to her that I liked and she said, can't have it. I asked if I could have the chicken tika masala and sub lamb for chicken and was told no. This leads me to one of two things, everything is PREMADE or they are not flexible just for the sake of being not flexible. Oh and also we ordered and appetizer, never got it. We ordered another dish and a key ingredient was missing. And finally once our food was brought to us, we never saw anyone again, except to take our plates away and drop off the bill. Really too bad. I used to love going to this place but will never go back now.

i have eaten Indian food in 8 different states, from magnificentdomed structures to little hole in the wall places, but the food at Gangadin is by far the best i have had. Spiced to order , aromatic and plentyfull, served in a cosey friendly atmosphere.

I have been to this restaurant several times and absolutely love the food. One sign of a good Indian restaurant is the consistency and these guys are consistently good. And when you tell them to make something spicy, this is one of the few places where they actually make it SPICY by Indian standards. The owner seems to take real pride in the restaurant and seems to be actively involved in the kitchen as well. I have never seen service to be an issue here either. The only thing may be that the prices are a little on the steeper side but the food more than makes up for it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Oh how I'm craving their reshmi chicken right now!!! Sizzling, succulent pieces of perfectly spiced chicken breast... a must-try. The peshwari naan (naan with dried fruit) was a bit too sweet to go with dinner, but it saved me from ordering dessert. Lovely staff.. the owner is charming and welcoming.

Food has been excellent - I've gotten take out with friends 3 times already. One time, the curry was too spicy (for medium), but overall, you can feel the quality of the food here. It surpasses most indian places I've eaten at in LA. One thing I have to complain about is the higher prices on their menu just as the economy is on a downturn. It's a little cruel. I understand food costs have risen, but this means that I'll be ordering less. After 3 times in one month, I'll have to cut down drastically.

YUMMY !!!! We are both gluten free and mentioned that upon arrival and we were looked after so well ! The suggestions were excellent, the food was amazing, the service was excellent and I loved the family atmosphere. Manmeet ji, the owner, came to check on us several times as did Sangmeet, his son. We are already planning our return dinner - excited to try everything on the menu ! Already planning on catering from here :)

Four of us had dinner at Gangadin last evening. We had plans to go bowling nearby and Gangadin had the best rating for Indian food in Studio City. Place was reasonably busy for 730 PM on a Friday Evening. Was obvious this is a family run (father/son) establishment where they take great pride in their establishment, make sure their guests are well attended to. However, while the service was wonderful the food I ate had some real challenges. Dinner began with an appetizer of Onion Pakora. I expected classic Pakora. What we received was Onion Falafel. Really, not kidding here. It was not a very good rendition of this Indian classic as it lacked flavor and/or the right texture. Won't be ordering this dish again. Next came the Mattar Paneer which was my choice for the table to share. The sauce part of the dish was tasty; however, the paneer (cheese squares) were chewy and not edible. I know precisely how Mattar Paneer should taste and this rendition was a disgrace. I should have sent it back. The Vegetable Biryani was the best item I tasted. It was a good rice dish with nice flavors. It was a 3.5 star dish. Everyone at the table raved about the Tandoori Chicken. I tried it and would say it was ok; however, was not good enough to get me to return. There was another chicken dish we shared with chicken in a red cream sauce. The chicken was a tad overdone and chewy for my taste. The Naan bread was fair. The bottle of Kung Fu Riesling was good; however, needed some ice as Riesling needs to be served ice cold. We had 2 star food with 4 star service. Sadly, this is an Indian restaurant for non Indian people. This is an Indian restaurant for those whom have never been to India. I doubt they have any patrons of Indian decent dining here. The folks running this establish are very nice, will go out of their way to take care of you. However, the food has its challenges.

I am very sad to change my previous review, but after my last two visits to this restaurant, it is necessary. The bottom line is if the patriarch and owner of the restaurant isn't there, the experience can be extremely different - and bad. The last two times I went to Gangadin, after being a devoted customer for the last 3 years, were bad to awful. The food is still good, but the service is terrible. My visit with my wife last night was the last straw. We were greeted and seated quickly and our order was taken quickly by one of the owner's sons. The son informed us that his dad just left and he was glad. He took our order, which included nan, an appetizer of Sag aloo and pickled vegetables and 2 main courses. The pickled vegetables (an extremely tiny portion) arrived quickly but was inedible due to how salty it was. Then, the waiting began. After 30 minutes of sitting there waiting with no one visiting our table, I went over to ask what was going on and if they could bring some of our food. The person I spoke to apologized and said he would tell our server. 5 minutes later, another server brought our Nan, but instead it was some type of hard, cracker/flat bread. At this point, I went over to speak with our original server who is the son and manager on duty. He said he was sorry for the delay and they were having problems with the Tandoor. This was the first I heard of any reason for the delay and I wasn't sure why they couldn't have brought us our other appetizers. Given the terrible service and our hunger, my wife and I left to go find food elsewhere. Needless to say, this was an aggravating experience and was far from our hope for our date night dinner at Gangadin. If we ever decide to go again, I will call ahead to make sure the owner is on site.

i came here with an indian friend of mine and he can vouch for the food as well. each dish is served with a side of salad, yogurt, lentils, and rice. i got the lamb curry and loved all of it. i will say i ordered it spicy and it wasn't very hot at all but the server said if we let them know next time they can up the spice level. i also had tea to drink, which was good. our server was knowledgable and helpful and friendly. the bill was totally affordable too.

YUM YUM YUM!! I can't explain how delicious this Indian food is. I like trying new restaurants and sometimes i regret it, but this time i fell in love.. my favorite Indian food are samosas and paratas and these were the best.. they were really stuffed and delicious they came with a green sauce and a red one that tasted like barbecue but better... i had chicken curry which was delicious as well it had a lot of flavor not just spice also i loved the yellowdull very yummy!!. I will be coming back to this place its the best!! I recommend everyone to go...

The food was delicious, I admit that there was some mixups with our order but the quality of the food and the overall customer service still merit these guys a high rating. They even walked over the portion of our pickup order that was left behind. Super friendly and easy to work with. Will absolutely be back again.

Had a really wonderful family dinner here. The service was beyond wonderful. And the owner even gave me a special poster to take home. I have some food allergies (gluten and dairy,) but everything was clearly labeled on the menu...amazing! (And when I had questions, our server was delighted to answer them.) The food was super good, I had the Lamb Vindaloo, and we had a wonderful meal :)

This is a fantastic restaurant! We came here for my father's birthday and had an amazing experience. One of the things I loved about the restaurant is that they are a family operation. Manmeet is the owner and he has been running the place for 30 years! He greeted every table when they arrived and welcomed them to his place. Many visitors already knew him from before and now I know why. These days Manmeet has his two sons working with him at the restaurant. You really gotta love a family shop that works well together! Let's talk about the food, because it was GOOOOOD! We ordered the Gangadin Green Chili Lamb, Lamb Biryani, Okra, kabobs, and Garlic Naan. A great thing to note is that all their lamb is ground in the shop and the lamb kabobs we got for an appetizer tasted great! The Gangadin Green Chili Lamb came nice and spicy just like I ordered it. The meat was very tender and had plenty of sauce for amazing flavor. The Lamb Biryanio came out great too. It had plenty of flavor and wasn't dry which is great for a rice dish. Everyone in our group really enjoyed their food. So the thing that really made our evening is the personal attention that the owner gives to every table at his restaurant. Manmeet had a great casual conversation with us about the restaurant, both of our families, the food, and living in our respective countries. It felt super comfortable to just hang out for a little bit a meet a nice guy. At the end of our visit Manmeet wished my father a happy birthday and gave him a really nice card hand written in 3 different languages. It was a fantastic evening. Bottom line: This place has great food and a great atmosphere. You have to check it out!

I ordered from Gangadin recently for an office dinner run, and the food was amazing. Their chicken tikka masala is delicious (I got the mild because I am weak but it was still very flavorful), and the garlic naan is incredible. Everyone working at the restaurant was super helpful and very nice -- my pickup took a while because I had everything bagged separately but they could not have been more thorough or helpful. I would definitely come back here again.

32 years in business! Wow! Congrats on serving delicious food all these years. I've been enjoying the variety of home cooked Indian food here for over 20 years. I've never been disappointed! I love seeing a family owned restaurant do well in such competitive area. This family is so friendly and really cares about their guests. They make you feel welcome. The place is clean. Easy parking. Great for date night or lunch with friends. I've tried almost everything on the menu & enjoyed it. Don't miss on their variety of Naan! The Samosas are great too! Looking forward to my next visit. Congratulations!!!

I'm pretty happy with my first take out visit. I looked this small restaurant up on yelp and I ordered over the phone. I ordered the chicken makhani (also known as butter chicken), garlic naan, and rice with peas. My order came to $21. For the food quantity I received, I expected a little more. The taste of the food was ok. Wish there was a little more kick to the medium spice level but no problem there as I can always request it hotter. Honestly, for what I received, I'm not impressed with the price, quality or quantity. The location is very close to work and I was hoping to make it a regular lunch place but I don't think ill be returning anytime soon. Turns out, I had an amazing butter chicken elsewhere and it's hard to get the same taste anywhere else. My few complaints have nothing to do with service. Right when I walked in I was tended to and accommodated. Great personnel, as far as I experienced. My complaints are the food portions, the garlic naan has garlic spread onto it instead of cooked in, which I felt was a cop-out and they charge like a buck more for not so awesome spread. The rice wasn't spiced or anything special- if anything I could've done without the peas. Eh. Probably gonna search for a better place within walking distance.

This is a review for delivery! I was over at a friends house in the area, and the Yelp reviews looked great for this place! So we ordered a chicken entree (don't remember which one) and shahi paneer. 10 min. after placing the order online, I got a call from the restaurant and he told me, "Your order comes with rice, would you like it?" I didn't read that the order came with rice, maybe I missed it, cool! I said yes, of course. He then says, "I'll add naan for you, what kind would you like?" Surprised again.... I said garlic. Hung up the phone and we were really impressed. When the delivery came, I signed the receipt and it was the amount I paid, about $27.00. Then I see on my bank statement, they charged me the $27.00, refunded me the $27.00 and then charged me $36.00! They went back and charged me $9.00 for the rice and naan when he didn't mention a thing about charging! Do restaurants do that now? Do they call you back to trick you into adding to your delivery order? We have never, ever experienced anything like that before. I won't ever order form here, or patron here. Very disappointed.

I'm thinking Indian food is like my new fav foods to enjoy! The Chicken Masala is like candy if you dip it in the garlic bread! It seems like everyone is friends that come here and the staff knows all the customers. I think it was a little bit more expensive than other Indian food we've had bc we had to order rice and garlic bread separate. Over all it was good. But I wanna explore more Indian food around the area :)

This restaurant uses fresh, exciting ingredients like zucchini and broccoli. None of this frozen peas and corn BS that some places like to pass off as food. Definitely my favorite Indian restaurant in the area. By miles.

I had lunch here with my co-workers and we all liked it. Most of us got the chicken lunch special, and we had garlic nan and three amazing kinds of chutnee for the whole table. With your main dish, you get a bunch of sides that are all pretty good. The chicken is also pretty good and well-seasoned. But the chutnee makes it even better. The nan, too. Because of the chutnee, nan, mango lassi, and friendly family-owned service, I'm giving Gangadin four.

Hands down my favorite Indian place in LA. I've had pretty high expectations for Indian food after spending time in the UK, and this place is THE SHIT. I am never disappointed by their tasty, tasty food. Some of my favorites include the chicken tikka masala (aka the Big Mac of Indian food--everyone's gotta try it, and you WILL love it), the chicken korma (nutty goodness!), the coconut shrimp curry (perfect!), the saag paneer (some of the best paneer I've ever had, but totally an acquired taste), and the GARLIC NAAN. I could eat garlic naan for days. They've got a great balance of garlic to herbs to dough going on here, and I would love to take home 20 pieces and make sandwiches and pizzas on it (don't judge me!). Gangadin has pretty decent service; it's gotten better since I first started coming here, with warmer servers than before. I get more attentive service, which I love because hey, refills. I dig that. The owner's a nice guy who likes to chat, which was definitely cool the first time I came in with my mom and we wanted some recommendations. They offer good lunch prices (some of the best in the city) and always have a $20 for $25 deal for Sunday-Thursday dining; good way to save a few bucks for a weeknight dinner. I live in Mid-City LA and I'll always trek out here for Indian instead of braving the Americanized crap near my house.

we ordered take out and were thrilled by the gluten and dairy free options but even more thrilled that it was hot and yummy when it arrived. delivery was sooner than expected and driver was enthusiastic and friendly. the gluten free, vegan papdam rolls satisfied my craving for samosa which i can no longer eat and the shrimp biryani was a meal in itself. both the lamb and the chicken were perfectly tender and delicious. our only problem is that we ordered hungry and ate TOO much;) definitely recommend.

Wonderful gem of an establishment nestled in Studio City. I had the spinach chicken saag and my wife had the chicken tikka masala. we had plain naan and two cups of chai tea and let me tell you everything we had was superb. I hunt down Indian restaurants every where I travel to and this little gem goes right up there with some of the other ones at the top of my list. Side note, the owner will engage you in conversation if you choose to do so. Very kind, funny and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. This place is highly recommended!

I love Indian food. The spices, the textures, everything. I don't really know much about it, other than it's usually delicious. Unfortunately, there's not many decent Indian restaurants around me. My uncle was telling me that Gangadin is noted as being one of the best Indian restaurants in the area, so we decided to give it a try! Surprisingly, we found a meter right across the street from the entrance and we only had to put in change for about 40 minutes. When we got inside the place was pretty quiet, a few tables were taken and the entire dining area had a delicious curry aroma to it. We were given the small table by the window overlooking the million dollar view of Ventura Place. The menu is pretty large with every Indian specialty you can think of. While reading it over, a lot of it looked familiar but there was still plenty I'd never seen before. We ordered several dishes and decided to share everything. First we got the vegetable samosas (Indian pastry stuffed with mildly delicately spiced mashed potatoes and peas), pakora, chicken curry (chicken cooked in a sauce of fresh onions, tomatoes garlic, and ginger), vegetable biryani (aromatic basmati rice with mixed vegetables), onion naan bread, and the Gangadin special shrimp in chili sauce. Each dish was better than the last! The chicken was juicy and the curry sauce was amazing! The rice was delicious and the large pieces of cauliflower and broccoli made it even better! The samosas, pakora, and naan bread were great too but the real stand out was the spicy shrimp! I definitely understand why it's their specialty. We ordered it extra spicy and it had the perfect amount of spice to give it a kick without blowing your head off in the process. We loved every bite! Gangadin serves up delicious Indian food in a nice family-owned setting. All throughout our meal different members of the family kept coming by and making sure everything was to our liking. The food here is all cooked from scratch and they have plenty of vegan options on the menu too!

I eat a fair amount of Indian Food. Ok. I eat a LOT of Indian food. I have been going here for years. I still think this is the best Indian food in all of Los Angeles. This is the Best Indian food in all of Los Angeles. Come hungry, don't be in a rush, and enjoy. Parking is a bit of a challenge due to other popular restaurants being near, so be prepared to park a block away if need. The good news is, you will want to walk a bit after you eat. You can't stop eating. Then you think, oh man, I need to take a walk, I am stuffed. This is a family run business that has been in this same location for the past 20 plus years. I love this food.

The food was good but the service left something to be desired is how I'd summarize this Indian restaurant. It's four star food with a two star attitude. First, the food. I thought the lamb was very flavorful. My lamb was covered in a sauce mixed with yogurt. It also had raisins to boot. It was delicious enough I basically made out with my plate to clean it. The Nan was nice and fluffy and the Samosas were heavenly. The rice was...rice! The place is pretty casual. My two bras were in gym attire (finished working out) and they didn't get turned away. It's nicely decorated like a high end restaurant though. Now about the service: you could find more water to refill our cups in a desert than you could here. They didn't seem to care to give us water. The waiter was interesting with his dry humor. The thing that severely irked me was him sneaking in rice on our check. We didn't ask for it but he served us. We all were perplexed on receiving it like"Was it on the house?" Granted it's only three bucks, it's the principle of the matter. I guarantee you good food here but I can't promise you good service.

Sad face for trying Gangadin a year into my stay in LA and less than 2 weeks away from departing for the east coast. If you're craving AUTHENTIC, DELICIOUS home-made Indian fare, THIS IS IT. Don't fall for other restaurants convincing you that their Chikken Tikka Masala or Dal is authentic. It's a hoax. Most indian restaurants in the city treat you to frozen chicken popped into an oven with flavoring, or frozen chutneys. Trust an indian food junkie when she says this is none of that. We ordered the Reshmi Kabab and Vegetarian Korma along with Garlic Naan, 2 sweet lassi's. Everything from the paapad with pickle and fresh mint chutney to the lassi with pista (pistachio's) in it - I felt like I was waking up on a hot, indian summer's day and was being pampered by mom's cooking - and that stage of happiness in the states has yet to be found till Ganagadin happened. Family owned which keeps it as real as it gets, not austentacious at all. The uncle who owns the place with his 2 sons was absolutely delightful, recounting stories from back in day when he first moved here and breaking into jokes with me and my mom. We were so close to asking him to sit and dine with us, that's how genuine the care was. You know the food was made with love, you could taste it in each delicately balanced spice that left your tummy gurgling with agreement. Super soft and marinated reshmi kabab, heavenly korma with the freshest veggies. Thank you for bringing us home Gangadin! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! :)

Today was my first time trying out Gangadin Restaurant. I ordered Take-out and I had a problem with almost everything I ordered. The food was all cold. The plain naan was as hard as a chip. The rice had no flavor, the saag Paneer was really watered down and the paneer was a little tough. The samosa's had no flavor as well. I noticed a seasoning was missing from it. I am indian myself and have tried so many different ways of how these foods are cooked, and there was just something missing. for paying $124 and at 4 star restaurant and getting what I did...I was highly disappointed. I don't think I will ever return. I wish I ate in, I may have had a better experience.

Fantastic food. Great service. Amazing experience. Sangmeet (the owner's son) was our server. He and the entire staff were very attentive and helpful even on a busy Friday. Sangmeet gave great recommendations - chicken tikka masala, lamb korma, garlic naan, mango lassi, mango pickle, and the rice pudding with saffron ice cream for dessert. I've tried many Indian food restaurants in the Sherman Oaks and Studio City area and this is definitely the best. It makes sense why they been successful for 31 years.

My first experience with Indian food was in Berkeley, CA I had chicken korma & vegetable curry (mild) & it was the most exquisite meal I had ever eaten. Today, I had the same meal here & I thought my taste buds were going to start dancing with joy, it was that good! Absolutely delicious!

Great location. The food was okay and has been modified for American taste. Make sure to repeat your order so they don't mess up anything. The fish tikka was not great and not hot. The biriyani was not authentic more like a flavored rice. The lemonade was good. The Authentic Indian taste is missing.

This definitely is on my list of top best Indian food I've ever had! Manmeet, the owner, is very kind and personable. Everything I've had here is delicious!! When I have Indian food I can only eat it again after several months have passed but after the first time eating here, we came back a few days later! So far, I've tried tikka masala, chicken makhani (aka butter chicken), vegetable samosas, onion pakoras, and garlic naan. All excellent!
